I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Respect for staff, great coworkers, very rewarding job. Working residential, we have endless possibilities for where we can go with the individuals and not have to stay in the house every day. Yearly bonuses and raises are great, too

    Cons

Low pay, can be very physical work depending on the house, no weekend/ overnight/holiday pay differential

    Advice to Management

Try to live on DSP pay... can we get a bigger raise?

I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Learn a lot, flexible hours, coworkers are friendly and generally helpful, care given is exceptional and expected to be that way, will work with you to find a site that fits you

    Cons

Do not compensate/recognize hard workers or for the years you've dedicated to the job. Managers tend to lean more on good staff instead of motivating those less inclined to do their job

I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people, the most ethical organization in the state of NY, there is some employee appreciation, annual cash bonuses, great place to make friends.

    Cons

Pay could be better, the heart and work that goes into this profession does not match the pay available, also executive decisions are made from behind a desk and closed door, not from individual experience.

    Advice to Management

Step into the dayhab and do some of the hard work before making a decision from behind a desk and closed door.

I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Heritage offers competitive benefits. A full-time employee gets PTO, holidays, and decent health and dental insurance. The job can also be rewarding if one works at the right site.

    Cons

The one major con of working for Heritage is the pay. They do not offer generous salaries. As Heritage is a non-profit corporation this is understandable, but one should know going in not to expect to make what one wants.

    Advice to Management

Offer routine raises rather than undisclosed bonuses. Getting a bonus is nice, but it pales in comparison to getting a raise.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-working with wonderful individuals with disabilities
-being a part of something bigger than yourself
    -benefits are great
-hours are alright, could be more flexible

    Cons

    -drama, non-stop drama and backstabbing
    -poor management
    -CEO is very money hungry
-company does not encourage employees to go to college (won't accomodate scheduling for school)
    -not much room for advancement
    -pay rate is a joke
-most of your coworkers will be under qualified for the position, putting more stress on you to do their work.
-agency won't fire people because they literally cannot afford to lose more staff than they already have (high turnover rate).

    Advice to Management

Actually give a hoot about your employees and the individuals you support. Everything isn't about money. Treat those around you with more respect and maybe they'll stick around longer, and send more good staff your way in the future.
