I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people, the most ethical organization in the state of NY, there is some employee appreciation, annual cash bonuses, great place to make friends.

    Cons

Pay could be better, the heart and work that goes into this profession does not match the pay available, also executive decisions are made from behind a desk and closed door, not from individual experience.

    Advice to Management

Step into the dayhab and do some of the hard work before making a decision from behind a desk and closed door.

I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Learn a lot, flexible hours, coworkers are friendly and generally helpful, care given is exceptional and expected to be that way, will work with you to find a site that fits you

    Cons

Do not compensate/recognize hard workers or for the years you've dedicated to the job. Managers tend to lean more on good staff instead of motivating those less inclined to do their job

I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Heritage offers competitive benefits. A full-time employee gets PTO, holidays, and decent health and dental insurance. The job can also be rewarding if one works at the right site.

    Cons

The one major con of working for Heritage is the pay. They do not offer generous salaries. As Heritage is a non-profit corporation this is understandable, but one should know going in not to expect to make what one wants.

    Advice to Management

Offer routine raises rather than undisclosed bonuses. Getting a bonus is nice, but it pales in comparison to getting a raise.

I worked at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-working with wonderful individuals with disabilities
-being a part of something bigger than yourself
    -benefits are great
-hours are alright, could be more flexible

    Cons

    -drama, non-stop drama and backstabbing
    -poor management
    -CEO is very money hungry
-company does not encourage employees to go to college (won't accomodate scheduling for school)
    -not much room for advancement
    -pay rate is a joke
-most of your coworkers will be under qualified for the position, putting more stress on you to do their work.
-agency won't fire people because they literally cannot afford to lose more staff than they already have (high turnover rate).

    Advice to Management

Actually give a hoot about your employees and the individuals you support. Everything isn't about money. Treat those around you with more respect and maybe they'll stick around longer, and send more good staff your way in the future.

    Pros

    They have decent medical insurance.

    Cons

They treat their employees horribly. The pay is way too low for what you're expected to do. They play favorites. If you kiss some serious butt, they treat you okay. If you don't, they treat you like garbage. Worked there for two years. Wish I had left sooner. Not worth the headache.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees and the hard work they put in. Pay them better. Train them better. Don't expect them to do nurse work, with hardly any training, and then criticize everything they do when it's not done right. You need a better system.

I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Annual Raises
    Flexible Hours
    Various Locations
    Good benefits and Perks
    plenty of time off

    Cons

Don't get paid enough for the work we have to do
It seems like employees who are friends, or family with higher up will get promoted over employees who are good workers, they tend to keep the good workers at lower levels because they get the job done, then employees who regularly mess up or are problems they promote them to get them out of the house.

    Advice to Management

listen to your employees and praise the ones that do good. if an employee is a problem, don't bounce them around, give them a job they are capable of or fire them.

I have been working at Heritage Christian Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They genuinely care about their employees.
    Medical Insurance
    Dental Insurance
    Bonus's typically 2 times a year
They recognize their employees with gift cards occasionally.
They have a "High Five" system which encourages team morale as we can recognize our co-workers for the work they have done. Receiving a "High Five" also enters you into a drawing for a prize.
There is room for growth if you really want it.
The relationships you develop with the individuals is worth everything and makes it enjoyable to go to work.

    Cons

The pay is below average for the job field.
Residential employees must work weekends and Holidays which may effect family life.
Residential employees might be required to work overnights, than work 2nd shift in the same week.
There can be challenges that the individuals are working through that may require SCIP-R interventions for their safety and your own, but can be stressful as physical interventions are never fun.
Depending on the individual, you may be faced with challenges such as being hit, spit on, bitten, or scratched. Remember that these are the reasons we are there! To help them to cope with whatever is causing these actions.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your employee's and maintain your stance on your value's as these are what separate our agency from others. It is so nice to be apart of an agency that has compassion for their employees as much as their individuals. If I had to make a suggestion, it would be to have a yearly raise as most companies do to reward time served. While it is nice to receive the bonus's, raise's would be nice. I would also suggest classifying each individual site based on the needs of the individual's and paying the staff based on the degree of need there is. It has been expressed by many that some believe it is unfair that they get paid the same as some of the more independent sites. These staff say that seeing they are responsible for providing more personal care, medical, and supervision supports, they should be compensated more than a site that has less.
