    Not Bad, Not Great

    Pros

The pay and benefits were decent. Nice new office.

    Cons

Very limited opportunity for growth. The new CEO seems to be in over his head. Nepotism rules! Very high turnover rate. Upper management is very "reactionary" in their operating approach. No clear procedures set in place, policy and procedures would change daily. Training is horrible.

Used to be good until CEO left abruptly and many aspects changed

    Pros

Lots of pto, volunteer work, nice employees. During covid company was quick to set up folks to work remotely.

    Cons

Used to be a great company to work for, but since one of the founding CEO left abruptly, upper management changes and a company announcement of an office move to Tampa it’s gone downhill. Many employees leaving. Management doesn’t manage, zero people skills. They turn employee concerns around to make you feel like you’re over exaggerating. Promotions done with no rhyme or reason, most times advancement positions are not even posted, just handed to people who lack the skills to fill the job instead of people who hold grudges when employees disagree with them or hold different opinions.

Worst place to work in Tampa Bay

Apr 21, 2021 - Insurance Underwriter in Clearwater, FL

    Business Outlook

    Pros

A paycheck is the only pro I can think of

    Cons

No communication between departments or between employees and management. Management turns a blind eye to the employees suffering. The employees don’t matter, only the bottom dollar. Customer service is a joke due to management’s refusal to hire enough employees. It’s the “you’re not working hard enough” mentality, not “how can we help you and the company succeed”. The priority is growing into more states for more premium rather than fixing all the issues with the ones they currently write in. It’s all about who you know here. The fact that this place was voted “Best place to work in Tampa bay” is shocking. This place is miserable and the employees hate it here. I can’t imagine anyone honestly voted this is even a decent place to work.

    Pros

    Cons

This review will be centered on the IT department as that is where I worked during my time at Heritage. I cannot speak on specific departments and their leaders however I can give a general idea of how the company operates. In short heritage is a fairly young and immature company, however the management and leadership are oblivious to this and run the company as if it is a major conglomerate. Employees are treated as very disposable and are not valued. Managers will gladly hire from outside rather than promote someone who has decided several years at the company. I have seen this happen within all departments and this, along with the fact there is almost ZERO communication from upper management, creates an environment where moral is extremely low. Employees generally do not feel valued and this is the reason for the nearly 80% turnover yearly within IT and other departments. The majority of the original founders of Heritage have jumped ship almost as soon as the company went public. They very clearly saw the meek company outlook and jumped ship as soon as they could cash out their investment. For this reason I find it difficult to recommend anyone work here as it’s very clear that the board and ceo have left the company for dead. Nepotism is rampant at Heritage and nearly every manager gained their position through some sort of nepotism or because they are friends with the CEO. This additional creates more issues as the people leading the company are extremely inexperienced, and thus the people who are experienced and deserve the management position and over worked by said nepotism promoted manager. This is another big issue in the company and effects all aspects. The IT staff in particular are not treated with respect and are managed not as people, but just as a resource to be sucked dry. IT staff have been let go very abruptly, despite dedicating a decade of work to the company, solely because the it manager had an axe to grind. This happens throughout the company and creates an environment where employees do not feel secure or valued for their hard work and dedication.
