    Full time in the office!

    Pros

So much has changed throughout the years, I can’t think of a single pro at the moment. Not sure who to blame-poor HR team or senior management?

    Cons

The company does not treat employees equally. It’s all about favorites. Many questionable decisions made by upper management. Promotions are based on favoritism. People who lack general knowledge of things are being promoted. Some are also VPs. There’s absolutely no work life balance. Hiring and retention have been difficult due to the full time return to the office. Numerous complaints made but they seem to careless. Stuck in the old mindset. A company that prides themselves as a ‘family’, this is one demented family! Be aware.

    A Culture of "No"

    Mar 19, 2022 - Sales Specialist

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Training was incredibly detailed and proctored by some of the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable people within Hermès. - The products that are made by Hermès are really the crème-de-la-crème, they don't exactly have any true matches (at least when it comes to leather goods) within the luxury market. - Hours within the retail space are limited and consistent, closed on Sunday (depending on the location). - The pedigree that comes from working for a luxury house like Hermès is equivalent to being the Ivy League of retail. - Bonuses were generous, from both HOP and Hermès International. - Upon meeting any C-Suite or Senior VP members of the company, they were always incredibly kind and did not dismiss salespeople or retail staff as "lesser-than" or "disposable." Their pleasant demeanor always felt very genuine. - Through being a salesperson, you are able to make genuinely positive relationships with clients who are willing to come back to you. Some may even help you achieve your goals career wise, inside of Hermès or out of it.

    Cons

    - Salespeople are indirectly prompted to lie to clients about inventory, to restrict access to product, and to gatekeep Hermès rather than welcome people into it. - Product is incredibly in demand but rarely available. - The ways in which you can develop client relationships are incredibly small as rules around clienteling are incredibly strict. - Running on a business model of artificial scarcity, often times products that are considered "general release" (i.e. not restricted for top clients) are either pre-sold before they/as they arrive, or are unavailable entirely, leading first time buyers who want a product like a shoe that has been hyped on social media to either begrudgingly purchase something that they do not want, or forgo the purchase altogether. - There is usually no hope of restocking of products that do well, and if there is, the wait time is enough where in the case of wearables, the client loses interest or the product loses its utility due to the changing of the seasons. In the case of non-wearables, the demand for home goods is so high, that often times the products are reserved for top clients before new buyers even have a shot. - Maintaining a client book is doable, but often times salespeople are unable to get certain products for clients and the clients only hang on to hope for the off-chance that they will eventually be offered a bag. - Company culture at the retail level consists of people whose main goal at Hermès is to eventually become the Hermès client. There is little culture outside of the acquisition of product and the shadenfreude that comes with the militant denial of access to what Hermès has to offer to those who are unwilling to, unable to, or deemed undeserving of maintaining the company's attention.
