I have been working at Hernando County School Board full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

District leadership is working hard to move the district in a positive direction. Being in a smaller district, the focus is still somewhat focused on the stakeholders without looking at those stakeholders as just numbers in a system.

    Cons

A great deal of work exists to get school administrators on a consistent page with each other and the district's mission & vision of the future. Unfortunately some school leaders still run things with an iron fist approach, or worse, a non-committed approach.

    Advice to Management

Continue to move school leaders to becoming instructional leaders. Encourage and continue engagement in open communication. Allow educators to continue to have a part in moving the district forward.

I worked at Hernando County School Board full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are absolutely no pros, the working conditions here are doomed with a cloak of intimidation and dictatorship (superintendent Romano) that apparently is unstoppable. She will personally drive this county into bankruptcy through her many ongoing lawsuits.

    Cons

She has terminated and or led the assault to drive away some of the best talent and experienced people in the district. She has surrounded herself with weak assistants and marches on to her personal quest to occupy some political seat in Tallahassee. The only seat she deserves the seat on the next bus out of Hernando County.

    Advice to Management

To the embarrassing and should be shameful school board, Be active and take action, the children are suffering, programs are suffering. My message to those who are an aspiring leader in the field of education you need to pass on making Hernando your forever home and career. The ship is sinking, don't expose yourself and family to the likes of
Romano... ( note the school board open your eyes take your heads out of the sand.. The media will be coming for answers... )

    Pros

Working with families and children in an educational environment to increase a child's and parent's understanding of the importance of education and the tool available to increase achievement.

    Cons

Main con would be the wasteful spending on too many top professionals not educating children only creating and implementing programs that really don't work.

    Pros

Lots of quality teachers working and sharing information.

    Cons

Too heavy and stressful a workload for little money. District and State don't value the work teachers do.

    Pros

The hours are the best. And the people are great. There is a lot of freedom and you don't feel like you are micro managed. Good management

    Cons

Limited growth possibilities. Political agendas can shape a lot of what you do.

    Advice to Management

Invest more time into training and development of current staff.
