I have been working at Herschend Entertainment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company cares about you as a person. It is a great culture. The people you work with are dedicated and hard working. You get to work in a fun industry. Discounts at the attractions. They promote from within before looking outside.

    Cons

Pay might be average or a little below but the benefits counter that.

    Advice to Management

    Keep investing in your people.

I worked at Herschend Entertainment (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most employees are pleasant. It is rewarding to help make memories worth repeating.

    Cons

Very cliquish and such a small fish tank that if one person doesn’t like you it’s over. I was employed there for five years and made many friends and I love the park but I have a progressive outlook and was a strong woman and those are two things that are not tolerated there, it’s a plantation mentality and the employees are payed too little for the great service most employees deliver.

    Advice to Management

Make it a place where everyone has a shot and your cloistered fundamentalist religion the center of your business, Also, your pay is way too low for the good service your employees give to you.

I worked at Herschend Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The concept of working in the entertainment and attraction industry makes this company interesting to work for, at least on the surface. They do care about employees and provide some nice perks and do focus on doing things to make you feel good about your job.

    Cons

Pay is considerably lower than other companies in the industry. They are not the most innovative thinkers, so doing something out of the box, isn't going to be supported.
The company is rooted in Christian beliefs, which are are somewhat refreshing. However, it doesn't work in larger markets that are diverse and comprised of many religions. But that's part of the company's overall mid-western values. It's a bit stuck in a time warp.

    Advice to Management

Push the limits a bit and try something new.

I worked at Herschend Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Strong values and cares about about it's employees. Very much a family feeling when working for them. Provided all needed support to succeed.

    Cons

Salaries offered could have been better. Not a ton of upward mobility opportunities. We're very set in ways they compensated for sales commission. My goals occasionally conflicted with operations goals making things difficult.

    Advice to Management

Invest a bit more financially in your top performers, it would make a difference to them and benefit your company even more.

I have been working at Herschend Entertainment full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

From the highest levels of the company, employees believe in the mission and vision of the company, and it shows in dedicated leadership, hard workers, and caring co-workers.

    Cons

The team is lean, so everyone does multiple jobs. Pay falls below industry average in some areas, but there are perks to working for a theme park company.

I worked at Herschend Entertainment part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Getting to know a lot of people, getting into the park free, and getting free tickets for friends and family.

    Cons

Customers can be extremely rude. I have been cussed out on numerous occasions for something I had nothing to do with or for helping someone else. Some of the people that come there seem to feel so entitled it's ridiculous.
Management on the other hand make it hard to ask for help. After a while it's better to just make your own system up than to ask for help from them. Some managers will even embarrass employees in front of other employees or customers, that's not at all professional. Even when people need to be fired they aren't because they so desperately need people but the others who do what they need to always have extra work fall on them.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees so bad and pay more. Employees travel too far for $7.25 pay when there are places closer to where people leave that are paying way more.

    Pros

There is something really fun about taking a group of people through the city, and then plunging into the water, all while playing music, doing comedy, and running the show. You also have to multi-task by talking, driving, selecting music, watching the people, gauging their reactions, handling problems and emergencies, and stay entertaining, all while operating on land or water.

    Cons

The tours are only two hours long, and doing the same tour up to five times a day becomes repetitive. So the biggest challenge is remembering that each tour is likely the guest's first tour. Offer professional entertainment training or coaching would be good. Have supervisors ride on tours to make the guide better. Usually once trained you can go years without an onboard review.

    Advice to Management

Change up the tours. Have the guides rotate to different jobs. Cross train guides in all customer service positions. Take your senior drivers and rotate them as assistant managers so they can grow with the company.
