I worked at Hersha Hospitality Trust (More than a year)

    Pros

Good sense of community, fun co-workers. Free sodas, coffee, tea in the corporate office, happy hours, beer cart. Nice office

    Cons

Can be intense at times. Long hours depending on your department.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep people around who are committed to the company and who really want to work there, and who enjoy it

I worked at Hersha Hospitality Trust (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a job. Only some of the employees were ok.

    Cons

This company reminded me that I can do alot better. The pay is not competitive, there is no growth whatsoever - the head of my department even told me. There is no training at all except for the GM''s who go away once a year. People are quitting left and right and the senior level teams, say it's ok. The benefits are horrible. Overall, they company doesn't care about the employees. Don't apply unless you are desperate for income.

    Advice to Management

Words can't describe the amount of training needed. Make the investment in your employees. Communicate and get competitive wages.

    Pros

It's easy to move up if you show that you're worthy and want it

    Cons

Understaffed and under appreciated. There aren't enough people to get the job done and then the pay isn't so good on top of doing the work of 4 people

    Advice to Management

Spend more money on staffing if you want to be considered upscale so that you can provide an upscale experience

    Pros

Workspace situation is great not cramped into a little cubicle... senior executives are only arms length away and can be accessed about anything.

    Cons

they expect you to stay late even all the time even yhoigh they won't say it. Some supervisors put on a fake face and will won't tell you the truth.

    Advice to Management

Keep everything open and honest. People appreciate truth

I have been working at Hersha Hospitality Trust full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You like hotels? You like hospitality? This is the right place for you to work! Love this place!

    Cons

Need longer lunches. Not enough smoke breaks. Sometimes you have to work on your break which isn't cool, at all.

    Advice to Management

Management, please give your employees more raises and stuff. We need it! We really do! We love you though, real talk.

I worked at Hersha Hospitality Trust full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rapid growth creates opportunities to implement procedures and create standards across multiple departments

Training and support for new hires is pretty strong

    Cons

Ownership does not trust staff which creates logjams for approvals and doesn't allow staff to be efficient

    Pay and benefits below average

    Advice to Management

Trust your staff and let them flourish

I have been working at Hersha Hospitality Trust full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

great growth opportunity, you will learn a lot if you have no hospitality background and the people are usually great to work with

    Cons

people grow too fast and there is not enough direction. You learn as you go and there is almost no training involved.

    Advice to Management

get standards in order and make things black and white. Too many managers at multiple properties have 1 title but do 3 jobs. I understand you're trying to save money but an Executive Housekeeper should not be doing her job, and Accounts receivables, and something else outside of their job title.

I worked at Hersha Hospitality Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    There are always jobs available.

    Cons

Above property management keeps getting more corrupt and extremely unprofessional. Poor communication. Feedback is inconsistent. Expectations constantly changing. Management changed regularly/very little consistency at this company. Pay is significantly less than other hotel management companies for the responsibility given.

    Advice to Management

Follow High Hotels practice of requiring an in depth personality assessment when hiring employees. Care about who exactly you're putting in leadership roles.

I worked at Hersha Hospitality Trust full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities in Urban areas such as New York City and Boston.

    Cons

It states in their welcome video that they don't hire because of their degrees or their experience they hire employees because they match well with their company. That states that they will hire anyone with no experience and incompetent people who shouldn't be working in the industry and since i worked with Hersha there was nothing but incompetent people working in hotels that shouldn't be in such positions especially upper management.

Managers have a lot of favoritism towards select employees and give them the best shifts and put other responsibility on others and not compensate them for it.

If your responsible for a mistake and it wasn't only 1 person that's responsible and the second employee was the favorite employee of the manager. You would be held accountable for the mistake and be the only one reprimanded.

Pay is not competitive with other hotels in NYC area and other urban areas

Once your hired in a position its very hard to move up unless your a favored employee

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to go into all properties and speak to their employees and monitor their General Managers and Assistant General Managers.

Raise the compensation to competitive hotels and treat your employees with respect and the company will go far.

    Don't support favoritism
