I worked at Hertz full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get a good experience with dealing with people. Decent bonuses if you can talk customers into buying their high priced products.

    Cons

The location managers all hate their jobs. They will work you to the max with the little above minimum wage you are paid. Favoritism for long time employees. Little respect for new hires.

    Advice to Management

No one respects you when you are in charge and you complain about your position to "hourly" personnel. You accepted the position so deal with it or quit.

I worked at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

not a whole lot of pros other than getting paid weekly, Unlimited OT & commission checks once a month. garage and line people were friendlier than some managers and counter reps

    Cons

management, hours (working til 3 or 4am due to a late flight and having to reopen at 6am!) no life outside hertz due to working 55+ hours a week, no room for promotion. you can open and close in the same day. if someone calls if or quits management doesn't bother coming in they leave it for the employees to deal with while working ALONE which makes more pissed of customers

    Advice to Management

need more professional managers who do not favor those who flirt w them and customers. managers need to help some co workers w their professionalism as well

I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Nice hours
You get to drive some of the cars

    Cons

    Management
    Corporate
    Customers
    Unpredictable hours
    Mandatory over time
Commission isn't what they explain in tge interview

    Advice to Management

Screen the managers more. I work at the reagan airport location and some of your managers are just on a power trip. They talk down to you. Extremely condescending. Please listen to your associates! The pay is low and not worth all the craziness especially if you have to work until 2am
Fix the commission. We only get a payout if we make a certain amount of revenue per day. If you don't sale anything it continuously lowers the sales revenue per dag
Y until you get below the amount they require for a payout. Made 25, 000 dollars in one month and saw nothing of the money. When brought to the notice of management they offer 2%. This company constantly brags about the contracts and millions they make but pays low and commission is hard to make if your location gets a lot of third party reservations.

I have been working at Hertz (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Get to clean newish cars. I say newish because Hertz keeps their cars till 55k miles which is about 25k miles above industry standards.

    Cons

No work / personal life balance. They would rather hire externally than an internal candidate for management. Never have the cars for reservations and have to turn people away to competitors. While benefits are good, you will pay more than if you had a personal policy. constantly have management lie to your face and managers work maybe 20 -25 hours a week.

    Advice to Management

learn to appreciate your employees and train them. After 5 years of being here I should be able to move up yet constantly get over looked for an external applicant while being told there was nothing I could do different that I am a model employee.

    Pros

Absolutely no pros working for Hertz Las Vegas Airport location. Your life will be miserable.

    Cons

First of all, let me start from the beginning. When they hired me, they lied to me about everything. They told me that I will be making between $45,000 and $60,000 per year, which is the least anybody makes and a lot of counter sales associate make more than $100,000 per year. Complete lie as they pay you only $9.50/hr. and the commission we make depends on the goal(how much upgrades we do and screw people for the most amount of money). They never tell you about the goal at hiring time and on top of that if you don't make the goal(which most of the employees don't make because it's shamefully very high), they keep everything you make for them the whole month. I worked very hard and made the company more than $50,000 every month on the upgrades and selling insurances but they kept it all without paying me a single penny, except for the meagre hourly wage. On top of that, at the end of the month when you are about to make your goal they take a lot of cheap reservations, people who never upgrade and bring your sales numbers down, so they don't have to pay you. They do that intentionally every month end.
Secondly, they asked about my availability at the time of the interview and I clearly told them no graveyard because of my sleep apnea and they promised me day shifts. But after I started working, I found out that they have shift bids every 3 months and it's based on seniority(again, they never told me that at the time of hiring). So, I my schedule was graveyard(against my approval/wish). Another LIE
Thirdly, the way they run business is also unethical and unprofessional. They want us to lie to people and use scare tactics to sell them hertz insurance and sell hertz fuel and upgrade the vehicle. They don't have a price list for the upgrade. They want us to fool customers and tell them any number to start from and if the customer say no, ask for their sam's club/Costco/Albertsons/smiths/aarp/aaa basically any card and lie to them that since you have this card we give you another big discount which depending on how desperate/in hurry
the customer is. We have to go these mandatory special classes where they teach us how to lie and deceive people. They teach us to tell customer that we don't have the vehicle they reserve so they have to upgrade and pay extra. They want to keep as much money as they can after lying and deceiving people and on top of that they want to keep everything and pay the associates only hourly(not much). The employees work hard all month and in the end they get to keep all without any shame or guilt. All the employees are unhappy and they all have been lied to at the time of hiring. They take complete advantage of employees. That's why they have such a high turnover. This was my worst job ever I would never work for such an unethical and selfish company like Hertz and would never recommend it to anyone either. Very disappointing.
Absolutely disgusting and bunch of monkeys running the business.

    Advice to Management

STOP lying to your future employees and for the amount they make, you should hire people from the fast food industry, not someone with great experience in luxury retail and are making great money, to work for a hopeless company like yours. May the same thing happens to your loved ones i.e. cheating, lying, taken advantage of and maybe then you would understand the pain and stress we have to face to take care of ourselves and our family.

I worked at Hertz (Less than a year)

    Pros

Paid every week. Could be a good place to work if management were better qualified and more professional.

    Cons

Culture is anti team player. Told by MANAGEMENT not to "talk to other employees",and "they are not your friends", had the feeling that the management enjoys the drama that is produced by such counter productive ( in my opinion) advice. This job felt like I was thrown back into junior high.

    Advice to Management

Find competent, better experienced, managers that have the Company's interest in mind, rather than creating animosity and counter productive stress among your counter sales personnel for entertainment.
