I worked at Hertz full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Get to help stranded motorists.
Most of the employees are very nice.

    Cons

    Sitting way too much.
Having to let other staff know when you're going to the restroom is uncalled for.
Time off for almost any reason is hard to get the first year. Even calling in for a contagious illness gets a write up.
    Starting hours are horrible.

I have been working at Hertz full-time

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for learning and getting involved in projects. It is up to you on how much you want to grow and become a part of helping the company grow. I've worked here for many years and have seen many changes in leadership but one thing stays true, the company is focused on providing the customer with the right car at the right time at the right place. Every job contributes towards this, it is up to the individual to commit themselves to doing a good job, owning their role and working through the challenges. It has been my experience that leadership listens to your suggestions and communicates their strategy so all know the company's focus.

    Cons

Being a public company we are affected by the industry segment performance, no matter how well we perform. When the stock dips it is discouraging when you know it is not a true measure of your performance. In any company there is always a lot of improvements to do, it can get challenging when too many are launched at the same time resulting in dueling priorities and juggling resources.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the employee and you'll end up with a happy customer and a good product.

I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working from home allows me to save on gas; friendly coworkers; good health benefits; enjoy what I do

    Cons

CONSTANT mandatory overtime and never-ending pressure on quantity over quality; overwhelmed with constant heavy workload; no outreach to employees on the lower levels from corporate and upper management; poor communication between departments and locations; severely understaffed rental counters; supervisors and managers nowhere to be found on weekends; little support for stressful customer service issues; ancient computer software and hardware (constant crashes and lagging); no chance for bathroom breaks - you only get your two 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch; high turnaround

    Advice to Management

    1) Reassess your business model; where are you going wrong that you have to schedule 10+ hours overtime for every single employee every single week? Why do you have a high turnaround? Maybe it's time to meet face-to-face with some of your employees out on the front lines and in the reservation centers so we can communicate our needs and concerns instead of us passing them up some micromanagement ladder where we'll never hear or see the outcome. Work with your employees instead of against them.
    2) Stop pushing so hard for quantity and start rewarding your GOOD employees who take their time really helping customers in distress.
    3) Hire more counter staff. Customers are constantly calling in angry because nobody's at the location to help them. Don't outsource reservations overseas. Don't oversell for vehicles you don't have. Do more quality inspections on your fleet, airport locations, and HLEs. Be more proactive in ensure employees' well-being and overall morale.
