    I worked at Hertz full-time

    Pros

Being able to go outside and not be stuck inside during the summer. Driving all the different types of cars. Customer service experience.

    Cons

Your employment relies on selling their rental insurance - whether they tell you that or not.

I have been working at Hertz full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I guess the one pro is most of my co-workers are helpful

    Cons

You do the job of 3 to 4 people. Everyday we are out of vehicles stuck trying to explain to irate customers why we can't get them in the vehicle they reserved. Not sure I will last a year with the company. Too much work for just above minimum wage. My advice is stay away if you want to keep your stress and mental levels to a minimum.

    Advice to Management

My best advice is that the offices should be staffed appropriately. I currently rotate between two offices one is apart of a dealership where you do the job of car washer, phone attendant, customer and sales rep . After the work day is over you feel like crap getting yelled at by customers who don't understand the rental process and the phone that constantly rings while you have 10 customers in front of you. My best advice is to streamline your processes and make the overall experience pleasant for the customer and employee. Unfortunately the current car rental process is old and outdated and I figure another company will come along with something innovative to make the experience better for the customer.

I worked at Hertz full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fine if your only other option is to sell a kidney
Great if you are getting hired for a nice paying office job at the Hertz headquarter
Provide decent training to employees and managers
    Truly promotes diversity

    Cons

Not great if you are a happy person and you love life - Their company culture will change that
Not for you if you despise 1990’s corporate culture and a boss acting like Bill Lumbergh from the movie Office Space
Depressing if you’ve seen the movie Ted as it is pretty much the same thing
You won’t be pleased if you don’t want to wash cars wearing a suit
Not ideal for those who you don’t like the idea of getting yelled at all day long by customers asking “but why don’t you have the car I reserved!!!”
Should you really work for a company ranked in the 10 worst companies to work for?

    Advice to Management

This year again; Hertz is where it belongs, in the top 10 of the worst places to work for - as it was in 2011 – If you think it is just an industry problem, then think again. Even Enterprise achieves a much better score, so what is it?
Simply put, Hertz has a despicable work culture. The management is rotten at the core and for the exact same reasons the Wells Fargo management is rotten: For years, managers have moved up in the organization solely based upon their performance in upselling customers. Because they were such “great salespeople” Unfortunately, many of them achieved those sales results by either cheating or closing their eyes on shady practices. Abundantly praised for their “results”, they rose up in the organization, promoted by complacent executives, with little understanding of the big picture and the fact that tolerating questionable corporate practices unfailingly create mediocre teams. Those people now run the place. In the meantime, the bright and motivated new hires who rapidly discovered those nauseous practices rapidly quit (the turnover is over 60%). Yet, they were often the most educated ones, the ones with the potential to positively transform Hertz into a modern company. What they leave behind is a pool of mediocre, sometimes dishonest, short-sighted mid/upper management aspirants.
If “mediocre” and “short-sighted” is an appropriate way to describe many Hertz operation managers, it would be untrue to say that all managers are incompetent or corrupt but a real cleaning would help in changing the corporate culture.
With this in mind, my advice to management is separate the wheat from the shaft and grant promotions on a set of holistic kpi’s, geared toward keeping the visionaries and not the yes-men. It would make a world of a difference.

    Pros

    - Great employee benefits and discount programs
    - Genuine camaraderie amongst peers
    - Employee loyalty to the brand is unmatched
    - Great employee development programs and advancement opportunities

    Cons

    - Lack of respect for lower level employees
    - Disconnect between the field and corporate in terms of business strategy
    - Too much red-tape and bottlenecks in approval processes for anything from getting your idea promoted or ordering much-needed supplies for location

    Advice to Management

    - If you have an open door policy, then practice it.
    - Be open to new ideas and don't let self-ambition blind you to what is best for Hertz.
    - Listen to your employees and enable them to realize those revenue-generating, cost savings ideas.
    - Learn from other managers' mistakes and bad decisions. Don't repeat them.

    Pros

Very easy job if you don't mind driving for extended periods.
    Flexible scheduling

    Cons

Minimum wage would like to see wage increased to around $8 considering hours are sometimes not consistent week to week.
Some weeks they will simply not need you and won't give you hours
