I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    * Believe in promoting from within
    * Great tenure among the employees that have grown within the company
    * Improved focus on customers and customer service
    * Top Notch vehicles in the fleet
    * Great learning and growth opportunities offered online and through classroom
       trainings

    Cons

    * Due to peak business needs, actions tend to be reactive rather than pro-active (improvement and plans have started) and create a burden on existing staff.
    * Re-Establishing company identity after the relocation.

    Advice to Management

Great changes have started to happen. There should be more transparency along the way to promote greater engagement.

    Pros

They work well with developing lower management and promoting, moving as soon as you're ready.
If you're willing to travel the this is the job for you!

    Cons

-Unions will destroy your ability to manage and do your job.
-The LM's are overworked and underpaid, but its a stepping stone position

    Advice to Management

-Prepare for long hours as a LM 1
-Don't dress in the uniform, wear nice clothes always
-The pay is LOL but it's a stepping stone to a much better position
-Do not wait to be promoted, actively work towards it and keep applying

I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can gain great knowledge about the business, which you can use in your future careers. Off early on Saturdays, closed on Sundays, and no work on holidays. Weekly pay is nice also!

    Cons

There's hardly ever any fleet. The fleet we do have is old, dirty, and smells. Billing is horrible. You have to do at least five jobs for the price of one; you will do the rental, return the rental, wash and gas the cars, and pick up and drop off customers. You will be forced to sell optional services, and if you don't meet your numbers, you're subjected to a write up. You do not get a bonus for what you sell! Short staff and long hours.

    Advice to Management

Please, focus more on adequate training. Not just forcing learning connections down our throats. Stop forcing us to sell when majority of the business is insurance replacement. It always causes confusion. Get more fleet, good fleet! Stop snatching cars. As soon as you do that, escalations start! Give your employees some initiatives, and act like you value us. In return we may become motivated to do better.

    Pros

You get to learn basic Management roles

    Cons

Nobody cares, upper management has no idea what they are doing, people get fired everyday day there, people quit everyday there. Management's way of leading is projecting fear into employees.

    Advice to Management

No point giving advice because management doesn't listen.

I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working from home allows me to save on gas; friendly coworkers; good health benefits; enjoy what I do

    Cons

CONSTANT mandatory overtime and never-ending pressure on quantity over quality; overwhelmed with constant heavy workload; no outreach to employees on the lower levels from corporate and upper management; poor communication between departments and locations; severely understaffed rental counters; supervisors and managers nowhere to be found on weekends; little support for stressful customer service issues; ancient computer software and hardware (constant crashes and lagging); no chance for bathroom breaks - you only get your two 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch; high turnaround

    Advice to Management

    1) Reassess your business model; where are you going wrong that you have to schedule 10+ hours overtime for every single employee every single week? Why do you have a high turnaround? Maybe it's time to meet face-to-face with some of your employees out on the front lines and in the reservation centers so we can communicate our needs and concerns instead of us passing them up some micromanagement ladder where we'll never hear or see the outcome. Work with your employees instead of against them.
    2) Stop pushing so hard for quantity and start rewarding your GOOD employees who take their time really helping customers in distress.
    3) Hire more counter staff. Customers are constantly calling in angry because nobody's at the location to help them. Don't outsource reservations overseas. Don't oversell for vehicles you don't have. Do more quality inspections on your fleet, airport locations, and HLEs. Be more proactive in ensure employees' well-being and overall morale.

    I worked at Hertz full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours/shifts and an opportunity to work overtime (due to short staffing). Cool uniforms.

    Cons

Wage barely above state minimum. Large (mandatory) union dues. Little or no training. Negative culture.

    Advice to Management

Communicate and treat staff in positive, respective ways. Listen to staff's concerns about lack of training and broken equipment. Improve the culture and pay scale so the company can retain staff.

    Pros

The only pro is sometimes you could drive a nice car home if you aren't completely sold out and your area manager is nice enough to "allow it".

    Cons

No appreciation, long hours, clean cars, investigations galore into your employees, micromanagement, mass firings.

    Advice to Management

You took 5 plus year employees and drove them out. Shame on you.
