    Positive Outlook

    I worked at Herzfeld & Rubin full-time

    Pros

World-caliber automotive product liability defense practice that can provide junior lawyers with great substantive experience; some other standout practices

    Cons

Average partner age probably above 60, out of touch

    Advice to Management

Modernize management and technology, bring in new blood for next generation or merge with a bigger solid automtive product liability firm

I worked at Herzfeld & Rubin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

24 days paid vacation per year with option to rollover 10 days and payout 5 days per quarter (max 10 per year). Reasonable health and dental benefits. Generally friendly staff and attorneys.

    Cons

Firm is decades behind in terms of modern legal technological solutions. Average age of a partner is over 70, associates have high turnover. Most staff don't stay on more than 2 years. The firm administrator is petulant, yells at staff members and vendors, has a short temper and a rude demeanor; truthfully she is the largest issue this firm has. Money management is also a problem, partners have too many amenities and too high pay and everyone else suffers for it.

    Advice to Management

Hire a new administrator, design a new website, update the technology, pay your vendors, establish an actual HR department, and stop allowing the abuse of the support staff by ignorant luddites.

    Receptionist gossiped to office manager
    Difficult attorneys

  6. "Non attorney staff"

    Pros

Most of the attorneys appear nice towork with and the managing partner was human. The office is beautiful and modern.

    Cons

No human resource department. Communication not good..alot of secrecy. Administrator really only is a puppet for the partners. No one to go to if you have a concern. Every department keeps to themselves, feels like glass ceilings everywhere for example paralegals and legal secretaries don't socialize together.

    Advice to Management

Develop a human resource department that actually cares about non attorney staff with no favoritism. Create an open door policy. People want to feel human and valued at work. Not open to suggestions by staff. Very stiff work environment.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Herzfeld & Rubin full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Attorneys are professional and ethical, seem to work well both individually and as a whole. Firm is small, quiet, nice vibe. Receptionists are very nice, professional also. Everybody keeps to themselves

    Cons

There is no orientation into the firm, you have to learn by doing, and making mistakes. There is no human resources and if you have a question you must go to either a colleague or firm administrator. Firm administrator does hiring, yet does not introduce to policies, etc. There is not outlet should you have a problem or question.

    Advice to Management

Form a human resources department of more than just the firm administratror

    Pros

Good firm to take on early responsibility and learn from some experienced attorneys.

    Cons

Terrible salary, well below market. Management compares themselves to Big Law firms (billable hour requirements, etc.) yet, pay, staff, resources, capabilities, are more like solo practice small firm shops. No defined practice groups.

    Advice to Management

Stop comparing yourself to big firms and accept the fact that the heyday is over.

    I worked at Herzfeld & Rubin full-time

    Pros

I thought I was going to receive professional experience in defending our client's interests. Interacted with responsible court staff. I only learned to bill and pad as much as I could with little consideration to the client.

    Cons

I felt totally ashamed as I worked with Trusts and Estates. Trusts that were supposed to protect families were used to destroy them. We depleted Trusts with inflated legal fees as if they were candy stores. I did not become an attorney to hurt others with intent.

I worked at Herzfeld & Rubin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hours and benefits were generally humane. Many of the younger partners, attorneys and some of the more senior ones were very pleasant to work with.

    Cons

Middle management was somewhat understanding and tried to be fair but felt like they were always a little suspicious of employees even without any basis or prior issues. Some of the senior partners/attorneys were difficult and could have better interpersonal skills.
