I worked at Hess Corporation (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a great atmosphere which includes great amenities. (Subsidized Starbucks and $6 lunch). Well respected among peers from the outside. Prime Location.

    Cons

Accenture has received multimillion dollar contracts and came in and undercut the current loyal workforce. From Financial to IT, very poor management.

    Advice to Management

American Company deserves an american workforce not indian.

    Pros

    Great working environment and bonuses

    Cons

The way you have to re-apply and compete with non employees to be transferred to a new group within the company.

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great dinning facility's. Nice office in Houston by Discovery Green. 401K match. Good benifit plans, medical, dental, and eye. Bus and parking subsidised. 9/80 work schedule

    Cons

Non-technical positions ate marginalised so amounting and finance staff are not valued by upper management. Outsorced account in ng to Accenture in India. Under staffed

    Advice to Management

Eliminate Accenture and bring the accountants back to Houston. Actually adhere to the 2020 vision and treat employees like a true asset. Cut back on HR reps- they never know answers and just tell you to call benifits center

I worked at Hess Corporation as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great offices, location downtown, people are great to work with and professional. They have a good message and are trying to do it the right way.

    Cons

Not so nice to their contractors, and younger staff.

    Advice to Management

Take contractor performance seriously, mentoring of younger staff a priority.

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great as a whole. Great benefits, hours (9/80) and compensation.

    Cons

A few years back the company started hiring managers with no O&G experience. They started using "Is who you know" rule and bringing friends to management positions. Culture started deteriorating, trust was disheartening, workload increased for some people, politics sky rocked. Very stressful workplace.

    Advice to Management

Hire management that is able to support his direct reports with knowledge, people skills, motivational, team leader and great sense of leadership. Having a management title does not give power or privileges. It imposes responsibility, and your responsibility is your workload, the company and the people below you.

    Cons

None to report. Overall great company.

I worked at Hess Corporation as an intern

    Pros

    -Great location
    -Friendly people on my team
-Learned a lot, had an excellent mentor for my project
-Some nice perks (intern field trips, convenient parking, subsidized coffee shop)
-The pay wasn't bad, although similar positions at larger companies pay a bit more

    Cons

-Kind of gloomy/foreboding atmosphere at times - lots of empty desks in the building
-Sometimes the expectations for interns were unclear
-Not much in the way of any formal training for IT interns
-The IT department didn't have the common decency to ever get back to us regarding full-time offers; I had to text my mentor to informally get the news that layoffs were occurring, so full-time offers probably weren't on the table as far as they knew. It would have been nice to have been contacted, ever, after the internship ended. The last time I checked with them, the other interns in my dept hadn't heard back, either.

    Advice to Management

    Work on your communication

I worked at Hess Corporation (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Well compensated when Oil is priced well.

    Cons

No value to loyalty of employees. Promote politicians over technical experts. Does not value service providers like Finance or IT. No work life balance for Finance / Accounting personnel.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of evaluating value added by an employee. Part of saving ability to ramp up is to have service professionals that are capable still on staff. Engineers and Geo-techs are not the only ones who add value to the corporation.

"Statistically unlikely to get promoted from hired grade level"

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people with great benefits and compensation

    Cons

Statistically unlikely to get promoted from hired grade level -- this is true for both men and women. You'll receive lots of opportunities to grow, learn and rotate positions, but all will be lateral moves. Company states core value is to "grow our own timber" but consistently hires outside the company for positions that could easily be filled in-house.

    Advice to Management

Develop in-house staff and start recognizing the potential of women. In 8 out of 10 meetings I would be the only woman, and although I would be leading the meeting, I would often hold the lowest ranked position in the conference room. The gender statistics in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Corporate Sustainability Reports should be embarrassing to you.
