  • There's an issue with work life balance, just like most places (in 9 reviews)

  • They need to do a better job of vetting the people they put in upper management positions because excrement rolls downhill (in 8 reviews)

    Pros

They walk the walk. The Hess values of Integrity, Performance, Social Responsibility, an Independent Spirit, Value Creation, and emphasis on People are being put into effect each and every day.

    Cons

Stock options and/or profit sharing don't go very far down the ladder.

    Advice to Management

You're on the right track. The past 5 years have been great. We're well on the way to 1st quartile. A suggestion: I've worked for a company which gave stock options to every single employee. The feeling of joint ownership and pride, as well as striving for excellence which were derived from those options, is priceless.

    Pros

Compensation is great. Great people, you'll have the opportunity to be a big fish in a small pond. Fortune 100 organization with family feel. I've been with the company 3 years and have been promoted once and already in conversations about my next step

    Cons

Not a lot of diversity, but its getting better

    Advice to Management

Look for more diversity from a Gender, Age and experience perspective

I have been working at Hess Corporation part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You have an opportunity to learn so much, either by training classes or if you could help out in another position. (as a part timer)

    Cons

    1. You will have to apply for a position more than once in order for Management to take you serious.
    2. They will hire outside before hiring within.

    Advice to Management

Part timers should get first choice for the position that they applied for as long as they qualify for that position. Don't assume just because you have a part time job with Hess that you would not want a full time position. For example If you have helped that department out and a position comes up then Management should consider you for that position before taking an outsider.

    Pros

Great company, with an exciting growth plan. Senior management is accessible, and concerned about the culture of Hess.

    Cons

Hard company to get into, unless you have level of expertise in an area that's in demand. Not a lot of growth opportunities.

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The organization was full from top to bottom with leading industry professionals at each level. How many corporations today value their employees by offering a tradition pension plan along with a 401 k match? Very few, but Hess does! Communication about the goals and current status were frequent and beneficial.

    Cons

That John Hess and the BOD gave into Wall Street resulting in the parting of all non-E&P business entities. Company has went from a diverse group of affiliated entities to one solely focused on E&P that is tied to the price of oil.

    Advice to Management

Given the Con comment above, the stock price has reacted quite positively as a result.

    Cons

other than that it was a pleasurable experience.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They take EXCELLENT care of their employees. During the giant flood in Minot, ND 2011, they offered free storage units to all affected by the flood. They were also offering 0% interest loans to rebuild your house. The schedule was great...8 on 6 off schedule for the last year or so. I think they are shorthanded now and went back to a Mon-Fri.

    Cons

The main office for in the field work is in Tioga...no one wants to live in Tioga. I lived in Minot and drove 1.25 hrs everyday...one way. That wasn't paid for, but they gave us company vehicles with gas cards, which was nice. The other con was with management. It sounds like everything is fixed now according to a friend that still works there.

    Advice to Management

When someone leaves on good terms, and you tell them they will still have a position there if things don't work out (relocated out of state for a woman)...please stick to your word.
