I worked at Hess Corporation (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Well compensated when Oil is priced well.

    Cons

No value to loyalty of employees. Promote politicians over technical experts. Does not value service providers like Finance or IT. No work life balance for Finance / Accounting personnel.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of evaluating value added by an employee. Part of saving ability to ramp up is to have service professionals that are capable still on staff. Engineers and Geo-techs are not the only ones who add value to the corporation.

    Pros

Good Pay, Excelelnt Benefits and Great Location

    Cons

A bit Cliqueish due to many very long term employees. It is difficult to "fin in" as a newcomer.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to how mid level managers treat their subordinates..

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people with great benefits and compensation

    Cons

Statistically unlikely to get promoted from hired grade level -- this is true for both men and women. You'll receive lots of opportunities to grow, learn and rotate positions, but all will be lateral moves. Company states core value is to "grow our own timber" but consistently hires outside the company for positions that could easily be filled in-house.

    Advice to Management

Develop in-house staff and start recognizing the potential of women. In 8 out of 10 meetings I would be the only woman, and although I would be leading the meeting, I would often hold the lowest ranked position in the conference room. The gender statistics in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Corporate Sustainability Reports should be embarrassing to you.

    Pros

A small lean organization that provides its people with the autonomy, the independence to manage their work without layers of bureaucracy that generally hinder progress. Like minded people that strive to do the best.

    Cons

The managements systems need to be less complicated and more user friendly. Too many people get involved in the development of new system that it end up quite confusing and the main objectives for the system get lost.

    Advice to Management

Seek out strong project management individuals that have the right background and experience to help guide the technical teams and individuals achieve project / business objectives.

I worked at Hess Corporation (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company that takes care of employees with a "work hard, play hard" mentality. Great Benefits and Pay along with growth opportunities within all sectors of the company.

    Cons

Like many good jobs there is a big commitment by each and every employee to create a successful operation. Hess is just as committed to it's employees as it expect employees to be commitment to the company.

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Flexible schedule, competitive pay, younger workforce.

    Cons

    - too heavily focused on lean methodologies, leadership somewhat disconnected from whats going on, assets located in not so desirable places (North Dakota, West Texas)

    Advice to Management

Ensure that you focus on employee needs rather than managing what make sense for the business only.
