    Pros

Lot's of opportunity and good people to work with on a daily basis. Plenty of opportunity to work on technically challenging work that makes an impact on the business. Many opportunities to volunteer in the community.

    Cons

Career opportunities and decisions not always clearly explained. Sometime work objectives were rushed in support of the bottom line rushing the technical team evaluations.

    Advice to Management

At times it was unclear in what direction the company was headed. Over the years many initiatives pushed by management.

    Pros

Great company to work for. John Hess is the CEO - seems to really be committed to the company since his father, Leon Hess, started it.

    Cons

Not really anything beyond the typical politics that sometimes occur with a company this size

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work and make sure to keep allowing innovation

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Generally pays well with good benefits, executive team tries to communicate regularly, can be good opportunities IF you can get assigned to good projects

    Cons

Don't expect to be treated with respect ( sometimes even professionally) unless you are an engineer or geologist. Smaller organization allows for favoritism and relationships to be more important than work results

    Advice to Management

    Beware of bad middle managers

    Pros

    Very good work life balance
Bonus structure for employees was more than fair
Company was able at times to have a small company personal feel even though it was a large fortune 100 company
Many resources to be able to tap into due to deep pockets of the company/industry (this was before oil plummeted)

    Cons

Talent was not being utilized to its fullest capabilities
Managers would not pass down some of the more critical work for employee exposure and growth
More focused on processes (this duty requires step 1, step 2, etc) as opposed to developing the people and letting them explore better ways

    Advice to Management

Focus on the people and not necessarily making things at times feel like an exclusive club for the higher ups

    Pros

Great company; sound management; good communications with employees. Nice benefit plan with M/D/V and life, disability, others. Savings plan plus a defined contribution pension plan.

    Cons

With oil prices low, they had to outsource work to India but is not great quality and difficult to coordinate. Also growth programs being cut back to bare bones. Maybe they shouldn't have sold off the downstream and midstream companies because those are holding their own right now.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the equity raiders. John Hess knows as well as they do how to get max performance out of Hess Inc.
