    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great environment to learn how to operate independently and as a teammate. HP is tops in the IT world and treats its employees pretty good.

    Cons

Layoffs. If you don't produce or fit in the image of HP, you're on your way out. They'll give you a chance but if you don't hit your numbers, that's it.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved my job and got a lot of great experience. I traveled to some great places for work and was paid well. I had great co-workers.

    Cons

HPE changes direction every year. They would lay off thousands of people at a time. It's hard to rest at night when you're worried you may be a part of the next round of lay offs.

    Advice to Management

Stick with one direction for longer than a year. Meg should do what's right for the business, not just the stock holders and her own financial interests.

    Pros

Flexible and Laid back. Good work/life balance. Understanding of family occurrences.

    Cons

Management needs improvement, a lot of favoritism. Does not recognize talent in each individual and use it to better the company.

    Advice to Management

Need to find better contractors for the company. Turnover rate is extremely high.

    Pros

Hewlett Packard has an excellent training program. Associates are given the opportunity to advice in the company with continuous education.

    Cons

Jobs can be relocated to another country.

    Advice to Management

Really listen to your customers instead of always looking at the bottom line.. Longer term may work out better.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Young office culture:
Being such an old and "corporate" Company, HP
does an amazing job at keeping the office
environment feeling fresh and more like a start
up. It was my experience that there was never
any process that was "off-limits" to be
questioned and improved if possible. This really
made it feel like it was possible to make an
impact within the Company on a larger scale
than should be possible at an organization of
        HP's size.

    Cons

Occasionally disorganized, especially when a batch of projects are either being planned or are underway; the start date of the project I was officially brought on for was pushed back so often that I never actually worked on that project. Other projects were short of technical assets, so several of us were "loaned" out for the duration of other projects.

    Advice to Management

Continue listening to your front line guys. Most of them will have a similar background to myself; not a whole lot of years experience, but incredibly driven, and possesses a deep passion for the tech industry as a whole.

These young individuals will be the ones to bring fresh ideas on how to solve new and unique problems that have not been seen before. They will be curious enough to challenge the status quo and are new enough to not be suffering from vendor lock. You will need these individuals to shake things up and innovate tired old practices before the Company as a whole stagnates and dies.

As you all know, the IT industry does not stand still for very long, and if an organization gets caught in a rut, they will be left behind where it is very hard to ever catch up again.

    Pros

HP was a great company to work for. The environment, benefits, compensation, etc were great. In fact, they were far superior to anything in the state.

    Cons

They expect employees to be loyal to the company but do not return the loyalty. They are notorious in trying to fix balance sheet issues with layoffs. The majority of the reason they have balance sheet issues is because of being slow to market, using inferior parts in their products but probably the largest reason is because their design teams cannot create a lasting product.

    Advice to Management

Concentrate on the real reason behind the balance sheet issues instead of trying to fix it by getting rid of your greatest asset...your people.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great managers, good teamwork and flexible, it's a technology company first.

    Cons

They are going through a major restructuring after the split. The easy going attitude may gradually be replaced by revenue-driven performance. Some anxiety and uncertainty about future direction, and stability challenges ahead. Tread carefully before you accept employment here.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Tried to get employed by HP for a long time. I finally landed an interview, and I am excited! This is a great opportunity for me.

    Cons

Hopefully I can do everything that is required of me in regards to the position in which I am interested in.

    Advice to Management

Please do not hesitate in giving directions to your employees, and follow up on the topic to ensure that the employee not only understands what is required of them, but that they are actually implementing the directives as instructed.
