I have been working at Hewlett-Packard (Less than a year)

    Pros

Brilliant people to work with, flexible attitude that encourages you to actually work hard. Nice office and site, with plenty of parking.

    Cons

Remuneration is not great, but perhaps that is a sacrifice to make for working as a researcher, but this can affect performance when you know you can earn a lot more elsewhere. The benefits package is very basic with almost everything being an extra purchase. Career progression dependent on your managers so can be hit and miss.

    Advice to Management

Consider actively helping research staff to progress in their career than just repeating empty words!

    Pros

Amazing life-work balance. Flexible hours and working from home whenever you need it. Great benefits (free gym, health insurance, kids vouchers...) and very fun outings.
Some interesting projects to work on.

    Cons

Lots of politics and slow development and slow comunication. Messy releases and constant changes of scope and deliverables.
Sometimes you can find quite unfriendly environment

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on minorities - a female, if bullied, if she is alone, she would need a bit of extra help. No way of getting a better % man-woman the way things work.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

there are good benefits. there are great people. good office, no working from home. managers often don't know what they are doing but they have to follow HR guidelines.

    Cons

the company is to slow to make changes, often working on old technology. A LOT of politics and very easy to lose your job due to offshore politics. The growth is only in core IT centrers. no training ...

    Advice to Management

offer more and different chaleenges , dont be too process oriented. budget for training should be higher to allow everybody to take at least 5 days training.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours nothing else. If you just want a job join HP don't expect anything else in term of bonus and performance rating and reward

    Cons

low salary, yearly review is not on performance it on links and politics, No Training on new skills, Selection of project is politics of manager, internal project team grouping and dishonest in yearly feedback.

    Advice to Management

Management change the way you change daily clothes, poor management and manager appoint with links rather than there ability to do work.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

great people in the company - great customers to work with. We had managers with a vision

    Cons

too worried about short term finances... obsessed with grand recovery plans without thinking about the detail of how to make it work.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the values HP ( or even EDS ) used to have- e.g. HP 'INVENT' was a good tag line people could understand.
Ask some of your own staff who know how to do systems analysis to do proper due diligence of proposed deals and mergers.... to avoid being stiffed over...

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people. Quiet atmosphere. No pressure to work long hours. They had a very nice canteen.

    Cons

Management are overstretched and seem to be always in meetings. I worked on a big project which was constantly struggling.

    Advice to Management

HP seems very fearful of using any external cloud applications - this could make HP even more isolated and behind the times. The requirement to use in-house tools or avoid competitors tools instead of using best of breed is frustrating your engineers and is counter-productive when developing software.
