    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A good first job, or early career choice

    Cons

1 - They firmly believe workers are disposable so do not trust them to supply a long term career. When I was laid off, a large percentage of the people were over 50 - when it is hard to get hired elsewhere. They laid off just enough younger workers to avoid litigation.
2 - executives have not been promoted from within and instead are hired -- so culture is not maintained

    Advice to Management

Laying off a worker and hiring a younger one at 75% salary may look like a cost savings, but expertise helps people work faster and smarter - so it may cost in the long run

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Cons

Normal issues found in large corporations, overall a great place to work and be a part of.

    Advice to Management

    None

I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Tons of things to learn from my work, immediate supervisor and managers were awesome

    Cons

Withholding of information of tasks right before vacation leave so the employee could make the contractor look bad to the bosses. Another employee gave hard time. Both were insecure. In the end, the first one got reprimanded for purposely withholding important and urgent information.

    Advice to Management

Kudos to the management who saw the situation and reprimanding the employee. Don't give high roles/supervisory roles to your staff who don't treat contractors well. Just because we're contractors, it doesn't mean that we're less knowledgeable and experienced than them.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many different opportunities to work in different business lines. Excellent products. Loved the flexible work schedule. Campus amenities.

    Cons

PC business is flat to declining. The company is struggling to create new market opportunities. Lots of cuts and jobs heading to lower cost geographies.

    Advice to Management

Focus on growth opportunities. Create jobs with market growth rather than cut them. Communication is key. Clearly articulate the strategy and how your company will win in the marketplace

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary and used to be THE company to work for. Bill and Dave took care of their people. Unfortunately those days are gone

    Cons

Leadership sank a once mighty ship and took the money and ran leaving the employees to to clean up the mess and fend for themselves.

    Advice to Management

The idiots that sank the ship are woking on destroying the next company so nothing to say to them

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor

    Pros

Had good working environment, Great people. Good environment. Lot's of opportunity to learn and move around and try new things. There's plenty to do.

    Cons

n such a big company it's very difficult to shine or stand out. The rewards get trimmed down more and more every year. Just when you thought they ran out of ways to cheap-out on rewarding employees, they come up with some new and insulting "rewards system" which is just a new way to give less to employees. Bonuses have reduced to a trickle over the years along with raises.
