"Struggling for Growth in New Style of IT World"

    • Senior Management

    Pros

    - vast pool of talented dedicated engineering colleagues and services executives
    - well organized and targeted in go-to-market strategies, (big bet) technology competencies and services practices
    - still a recognized source for sophisticated high quality managed services and architecting enterprise solutions
    - repurposed sales focus on solving customer business problems with streamlined processes
    - HP HR standards, training and compensation high quality and in line with Tier 1 SIs
    - global rollouts of Salesforce and Lync increase productivity and satisfaction

    Cons

    - will this latest wave of (largely Accenture-bred managers) be enabled (remain long enough) to execute (after consistent post EDS merger management and go to market turnover)?
    - will ES be given time and investment it needs to reclaim growth in a New Style of IT (Cloud/Mobile/Digital Transformation/IoT) world?
    - can it find or create a disruptive niche? e.g. will it be a dominant Cloud/SDN/IoT/Digital solutions provider? and when will that begin to drive growth lost from legacy outsource world?
    - still high job anxiety from declining growth and waves of workforce reductions (along with loss of talented colleagues)
    - tremendous quarterly pressure on Services in particular (constant fight between can do and cynicism)
    - still illogical unproductive internal go to market compete between ES and TS units that should have been merged or mitigated long ago

    Advice to Management

I believe HP ES has the talent focus experience and commitment to execute and grow their New Style of IT services with large class enterprise customers. Mainly what ES seems to lack is a truly differentiated or killer value/solution proposition for Cloud/SaaS/Mobile/Digital/Big Data/IoT. Or if it has, its taking time for the market to adopt it. I think HP must win with their Helion OpenStack Cloud proposition. Perhaps they need to buy that growth.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work environment, leadership, technology, employee recognition, truly concerned with employee welfare as opposed to other companies.

    Cons

Recently many lay-offs due to re-structuring and bad decisions from top management in the past that made it loose presence and clients in the market it moves.
Salaries lower than other similar companies

    Advice to Management

Stop buying overpriced companies (Palm, Compaq, Autonomy, etc) that have no future and only make the available liquid capital less

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work with a great team of people and all very good at what they do. The people in the trenches are great to work with, knowledgeable, dedicated.

    Cons

Lot of layoffs and uncertainty. Lack of direction from middle and upper management. So many great products that never see the light of day.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the amazing people already here through personal growth and direction. Rebuild confidence in the workforce. Supply the workforce with the tools they need to get the job done.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Brand name and breath of product. Compensation is good. Benefits industry standard.

    Cons

Change and more change. Change is part of life and it the IT industry, however, HP has redefined the word. The biggest complaint is from the client base, two many reps and territory changes. Customer support and R & D is the worst in the IT industry.

    Advice to Management

What management. Too many and too many layers of folks that do not add value. Management is interested in the next level to keep their jobs and not interested in employees or customers. HP needs continuity in the field and more reps, not more layers of management.
