I worked at Hewlett-Packard (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working from home option was great.

    Cons

    Career growth opportunities not there.

    Advice to Management

Try to give employees who are asking for growth and opportunity a chance. Figure out a better way to mentor talent and allow them the ability to move around within the company.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to gain experience in different industries, client contract engagement
Solid best practices based service model, good for lower experienced colleagues
    Great, hardworking and smart co-worders
    High brand name recognition.
    Good benefits package

    Cons

HP ES has lost engagement with many long time, seasoned tenured employees.
A lot of structural changes that sound good at the executive levels, fall short at the client contract level
Very poor people management. Managers are basically administrators of policies and directives handed down from Sr. Mgmt.
Your direct mgr has no real understanding of what you actually do on actual work assignments on client accounts.
Difficult to impossible to grow from individual contributor roles into mgmt and executive levels

    Advice to Management

HP Enterprise needs to stop and take a long hard look at retaining and promoting their brightest employees. Too many of us that have been here and struggled through restructuring are not willing to go through upcoming additional structural changes with no hope of being recognized or paid appropriately for our contributions.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people who are committed to building quality software systems and providing customer service. Enterprise Services organization has strong bond and felt like a family.

    Cons

Revolving door managers. Lately the trend was for so many people reporting to people care manager that it felt like they didn't know you or your performance.

    Advice to Management

Quit reorganizing every 6-12 months. Seemed like effort was spent on developing new org structure and just when you got used to your manager, it would shift. I know reasons were discussed in Town Halls, yet it tended to be frustrating.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was able to work with little restriction and therefore develop a simple theory rapid delivery organization.

    Cons

Main emphasis appears to be to unemploy the American worker and higher less than qualified off-shore workers, even though the ratio is multiple off-shore to one US employee for productivity. Delivery to the customer does not invoke, accuracy or performance of software and services. Quality has been replaced by cheap labor.

    Advice to Management

Realize with more professional and qualified personnel, the performance of the deliverables is more accurate and consistant. Also, when interpertation of the specifications must be done on-shore then hand fed and continually redefined for accurate delivery off-shore there is a significant loss in profit and customer satisfication. The delivery takes longer and has more deficiences.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of training and mentoring opportunities. Move at your own pace and build a career from the ground up. Management styles vary, most are true to the HP Way and encourage you to build on your experience to develop and implement programs and serviecs to build a better customer experience.

    Cons

Pay is not consistant with market in all regions of the US. Women still make less than men in most cases even when experianec, certifications and base qualifications are equal. Discussions around pay inequities are taboo.

    Advice to Management

Level the playing field, pay for true performance.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have been with HP for more than 6 years, changed job positions 4 times and every time it feels like joining a different company. HP is huge and each business unit it’s like a different company all together. I can strongly recommend Software as the best one in Bulgaria. What I love about working at HP is the variety of options for career development within the company, the amazing professionals I am working with every day, the work-life balance and possibility to work from home.

    Cons

It takes some time to get used to the procedures and find your way around.
