I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The health insurance and other benefits are above average, maybe even higher. You will find a diverse group of people working for HP and more than likely interact with someone globally at some point. You get paid twice a month (1st and 15th) and most salaried employees never need to complete any timesheets or timekeeping reports.

Most people have their own work laptops, and you'll get your phone personal work number (through Skype). Generally everyone sits in their own cubicles. Most of the time there are little to no network issues (however, see Cons for computer issues). Onsite cafeteria, gym, and printing center is pretty cool. Outdoor paths to walk or take a break, very friendly people in the office (sad when you see your friends get laid off though).

    Cons

Most employees are overworked and putting in 50-60 hour work weeks. HP has laid many of its 'core workers' off, placing the workload onto others that are already overworked. HP has been stuck in a constant state of workforce reduction, through outsourcing or outright eliminating jobs. Since HP is a global company, expect to constantly hear about some kind of layoff going on.

Most employees seem to spend an ample amount of time in meetings throughout the day, and often times after normal working hours.

A good chunk of work laptops tend to fail for many reasons (HDD crashes, motherboard fails, CPU overheats, battery dies, etc.) It's very sad that most of the work laptops are refurbished/new ones. Re-installing Windows (reimage) is the most common answer, although there is an onsite IT department that you can go to try some options. Most people seem to visit IT once or twice every month for some kind of issue.

    Advice to Management

It feels like layoffs and outsourcing are scaring many core people out of work here. I've seen too many talented and valuable players get let go, resign, or come into work looking like death slapped them in the face. Be cognizant about your long term strategy, but don't be so vigilant to lay off those people who have been loyal and part of what little core is left of the Company.

We hear the words 'we have to do xyz in order to grow the company' but no growth in people assets.

Review call criteria, evaluate supervisors work ethics, lots of favoritism. I saw a female co worker sit on a supervisors lap!
