I worked at Hewlett-Packard (More than 8 years)

    Pros

SafeGuard Services LLC, a Hewlett-Packard subsidiary under MEDICARE contract on a fee-for-service contract with the usual benefits. Interesting and valuable public service work involving investigations to avoid waste, fraud, and abuse.

    Cons

Staffed by poor managers, and fraught with unnecessary work complications.

    Advice to Management

Hire professional management staff that understand MBO/MBE techniques and the difference between efficiency and effectiveness. Moreover, those that understand that a lead should be evaluated before a medical provider is affected by an investigated.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time

    Pros

IT organization mainly has it together. Beyond that, not a single good thing to say about what HP has become.

    Cons

NO raises. Ever. Forced ranking - every group forced to put a percentage of the people in "does not meet" category, even if they're great performers. What you get is the manager's favorites staying, and everyone else leaving.

Doing away with teleworking entirely. If you want to shlep into an office every day, in this day and age, you go right ahead. I, on the other hand, will NEVER return to that rat race.

Forced employees over 50 OUT, and hire kids out of college for less money. They'll be older one of these days, just wait.

    Advice to Management

All need to leave. Missed every new technology and market opportunity in the past 20 years. Don't have a single clue among them. All they do is cut costs, cut costs, cut costs. They don't know how to increase revenue. All they can do, ala Mark Hurd, is cut. Offshore everything they can possibly offshore.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits package with a lot of time off. The only thing that kept me there for three years is work life balance

    Cons

Bad management, can't move up, always eliminating positions. Doesn't resolve conflicts and ignores everything you say. Horrible horrible salary with no raises

    Advice to Management

Communicate! When someone is getting bullied you should handle that too

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Aside from decent pay for contractors, there isn't really much I can say that's positive about this place. Literally no other words...

    Cons

Inconsistent schedule. Bosses have no idea what they're doing- each one will tell you something different. Poor training, you get docked for things you weren't even taught. Zero social life, but they expect you to work six days a week and two half days within that schedule and be okay with it.

    Advice to Management

You should all be fired!!!! You lie to people like it's bonus points towards your pay or a promotion. It's insane!!!!
