I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The engineers truly care about the products they put into marketplace.

    Cons

The company experienced struggles with the product after manufacturing started in China. Once profits fell, the layoffs started. "Surviving a layoff" is just as detrimental to one's well being as the person being laid off.

    Advice to Management

Bring manufacturing back to the USA

I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid back, slow, working from home. People are nice, and overall a pretty chill culture.

Vacation is good, sick days are unlimited!

    Cons

Zero growth, zero advancement, zero recognition.

If you are a contractor, you will be treated as a peasant or an unworthy invisible worker. You won't be allowed to go to site events, if there is free food on tables, you are not allowed or even welcomed to eat it. It's pretty sad...

    Advice to Management

Consider accountability, and recognize your employees based on their accomplishments. Give more...

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I loved working at HP. The company was full of smart, driven people. I created life-long friendships at Hewlett-Packard.

    Cons

Our pay was frozen for 3 out of 4 years. And our bonus opportunity was severely limited, based more on the operational group performance, rather individual accomplishment.

    Advice to Management

Alter the profit sharing and bonus structure to incorporate more individual accomplishment. Reward hard workers, and those more driven, or else you risk losing them to competitors.
