    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

No pros at all. Got tricked in to work there. I regretted to work there. Its all crap and old systems

    Cons

Had to deal with old fashion coworkers and they were having hard time to adapt the new technology. Its hard for young people to work.

    Advice to Management

They should replace the old folks with younger generation who can adapt new technology.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of room to grow within HP, and you can always learning something new.

    Cons

Low starting wages lower than the industry standards for the Chicago metro area.

    Advice to Management

If HP wants top talent from the universities around Chicago, they need to start new employees at a higher salary. HP has been keeping their senior level employees wages frozen for quite some time, and in some cases reducing wages to meet their bottom line.
Overall, I like HP as a company, but they need to pay their employees more, and work on employee work/ home life ratio. They are currently trying to work on the work/life balance issue with their engineers; this is an issue management has been trying to fix and make better for all of their employees for some time now.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I'm really encouraged by Meg Whitman's vision and leadership. She's made many solid, significant changes to the strategy and culture that were long overdue. Overall, she comes across as candid, focused, and intelligent whether talking to employees, customers, or wall street.
HP is large and covers a wide range of technology offerings, there are lots of opportunities to move around and meet your career goals

    Cons

The positive changes up top can take a long time to trickle down and just because I'm not a Meg fan, doesn't mean I'm seeing the same positive changes and leadership within individual business units.
-in manufacturing "factory" they only get lip service as far as opportunities to move around and meet your career goals

    Advice to Management

The factory/operation managers need to be honest with there team, if you know what I mean.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, very able to work with you to achieve work-life balance

    Cons

    Layoff structure, communications about references

    Advice to Management

HP's unwillingness to verify my employment at the request of a state agency, instead directing them to pay for a service to obtain verification of my previous employment, cost me a job opportunity after I was laid off.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Exposure to bleeding edge technology
    - Lots of opportunity to learn
    - Decent health benefits

    Cons

    - Metrics driven workplace, a lot of time wasted trying to fix the metrics so your bosses looks good
    - Layoffs, Work Force Reductions, Attritions - words that go hand in hand with the HP brand
    -

    Advice to Management

    - For the middle managers nothing really, they're just following orders from the top.
    - For the top level managers, you need not worry whether the company goes belly up or the workers get disadvantaged, you have your golden parachutes.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of resources available; lots of opportunities for growth if you have the time to do it.

    Cons

Don't hope to get a salary increase every year, and if you do it's a measly 1%
