I have been working at Hickory Ground Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    It is in Reston, VA.

    Cons

-The couple who owns it are clueless and sucks all the money back into the coffers.
-Customers hate upper management and thus, make it hard for any workers to succeed.
    -Cheap and petty management.

    Advice to Management

Do the opposite of whatever you think of and maybe, you'll be more successful.
Even your family members quit this place.

I worked at Hickory Ground Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay was decent on face value, but not when you factor in dealing with the owners

    Cons

Too many to list, but I shall try:
    -unmotivated management
    -no accountability
-CEO shows up at noon for 30 mins
-all of the executive staff from COO, BD, Contracts, and Controller were fired or let go
    -customers hated us
    -competitors laughed at us

    Advice to Management

    Nothing to say...

I worked at Hickory Ground Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

HGS has 8(a) status, which when used properly can really help provide a competitive edge to win excellent government contracts. Pay was reasonable, but not spectacular considering the workload and headaches.

    Cons

The company is owned by a couple who should not run a hot dog stand, much less a multi-million dollar defense contractor. They are plagued with overspend in the wrong areas, have been in trouble with subcontractors repeatedly for being over 90 days (and in some cases even longer) late paying invoices. I knew of one employee who was owed over $10K in travel expenses for over a year that every time the expense report was submitted, the ownership said it needed to be submitted a different way. By the time that employee left, his expenses were still unpaid. Most of the folks who work there have been negatively affected by random changes in company policy (e.g. killing flexible work schedules, reduced leave carryover, oddly specific dress code, etc). Any agreement or contract entered into with the leadership of the company might as well be written on toilet paper. Morale is low. Turnover is high. Clients have learned to dread hearing the names of the owners or the company.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to someone who knows how to run a business.

    Pros

Some of the best people I have ever worked with, exciting and fast-paced work environment. The office culture is always happy and encouraging. Promotions are very achievable with hard work and dedication. Compensation is very fair and based on experience and value add.

    Cons

The new office is in Reston which is perfect if you live in Reston of near the silver line.

    Pros

The only pro to working for this company is that when they lie, they are smiling at you and when you get stabbed in the back, you wont see it coming

    Cons

This company is owned and operated by the judgmental Christian-types who don't believe in hiring gays or disabled people.
