    - very collaborative environment, if you need to get something done there are not many road blocks, everyone is working together

    Cons

    - no cons as of now

    Advice to Management

keep up the good work it's a great firm and excited to see the continued growth

I worked at Highland Capital full-time

    Pros

    - Highland is a big name (whether it's desirable is another matter) and you have access to whatever resources you need because of it. You can get whatever research or support you need to get your job done.
    - Coworkers are generally very smart and hard working. There are a couple of bad apples, but by and large, people are pleasant to be around.
    - Beautiful office in the Crescent, with plenty of free food and drinks
    - Good benefits plan, but nothing too out of the ordinary for buyside finance

    Cons

    - Culture feels paternalistic and overbearing at times. The firm has a bunch of odd rules that make it feel like the average employee can't be trusted to do his or her job without being forced. These include minimum weekly hours (need to log in and out every single day), highly blocked/restricted internet (with an insulting "quota" system that allows you to browse for 15 minutes a day), must share hotel rooms while traveling, no ability to work from home, frowned upon to leave the desk to get coffee, go for walks, etc.
    - Compensation is meaningfully below similar roles at other firms
    - The firm is constantly involved in lawsuits / scandals which gets pretty distracting. Due to legal issues with certain investment banks, deal flow is impacted as well.
    - Opportunities for advancement / promotion are very unclear
    - While they're all great people, the firm seems to have an unncessarily large back office, probably to deal with all the legal and ethical problems.
    - While active managers generally are doing poorly, HCM in particular has had issues with heavy withdrawals / shrinking AUM

    Pros

A unique and special work experience in Dallas. Your co-workers are legitimately smart and will help you learn. The work is interesting. The pay is strong and grow quickly if you do well. The benefits and perks are generous.

    Cons

Like other high-end jobs, it remains a pretty intense workplace.

    Advice to Management

    Continue focus on growth

Stop all of the employee turnover - it's ridiculous.

I have been working at Highland Capital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free lunch, very high bonuses comparatively, smart people, great office, promotes often, exposure to a lot of different sectors/investment types/people, ability to transfer to different departments

    Cons

Firm growth stalled a little for the last few years. Past PR issues hurt the firm's reputation but that has been healing.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps focus on a specific investment vehicle type centered around what the firm is best at, CLOs & maybe secondary CLOs. There is a lot of growth potential and ability to continue to strive when focusing on an area of expertise.
