I have been working at Highland Presents

    Pros

This has been the best company I have ever worked for! I can say that because when I started job hunting 3 months ago I was at a loss! Austin is huge and there are so many shady companies but Highland has a three round interview process that shows you everything your going to be doing before you even accept the position, if they offer it. The owner of the company is focused on growing her people because that is her passion!...

    Cons

The interview process does get kind of repetitive because they want to be so transparent they sometimes repeat themselves. Negative people who sometimes slip in get in the way of their own personal growth and then blame others.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! I cant wait to see where this year takes us! Don't stop growing the company the more we grow the business the faster I can get to my goals!

I worked at Highland Presents full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You learn how to approach anyone and close them. This is both good and bad, because it is difficult to stand by the products once you know about them. I will touch on this in the cons section.

    Cons

I'm a girl and can say that the culture in the company felt like a sorority. Pay was horrible and I was a good salesman (or "brand ambassador" as they refer to it: a misnomer and euphemism). The products are horrible. Pillows are made in the USA, they say. I think that entails sewing the pillows shut in Alabama. The Smart Circle group is horrible. The only reason this isn't a pyramid scheme is because you don't have to...

    Advice to Management

Give up this business model and do something fulfilling that benefits someone other than yourself. Don't make money off the hard work of your peasants. Maybe if you stopped selling Smart Circle's gimmicky products and sell locally made products it would be a worthwhile position. Most companies that have you standing in HEB pay $20 an hour - not $8.

I worked at Highland Presents full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There was great community, friendship, and support. Much room for growth, challenge, and opportunity.

    Cons

I worked a minimum of 60 hours a week. It is something that takes 100% commitment. In the end, the end goal wasn't more important than my husband and family.

    Advice to Management

Be clear and verbal about expectations from an early stage in the hiring process.

I worked at Highland Presents full-time

    Pros

The atmosphere in the office is high energy and very motivating. You have the opportunity to learn something new everyday and if you set your goals you will see improvements. If you want to stay stagnant in your life this is not the place for you. They have a very fast paced training program and give you great resources along the way to help you get to your goals. The CEO has a very open door policy - ask for help and...

    Cons

Time now for time later is a big thing here. But this helps strengthen time management skills. This is a full time hourly paid position with bonus advances. It's promotional work and entry level pay but once you are promoted to Assistant Manager it swaps and becomes very office oriented and you see a significant jump in pay too.

    Advice to Management

Management and supporting staff had my career and goals front and center and wanted to see me reach them as much as I wanted to reach them. They pushed me to become a harder working person and learn how to balance work and family and the things that were important to me.

    "Reviewed Review..."

I worked at Highland Presents for less than a year

      Pros

My original review was shortly after I left the company- on good terms, and was still under the impression that management had any good intentions. Now, a year later, I can say with confidence that I have seen the damage this company and its culture has done to other former employees, including myself. Selling pillows inside of an HEB gives you confidence to approach anyone, making my social skills significantly stronger;...

      Cons

While I have kept those three experiences with me, now I can speak to the rest of the company. This is not a company that encourages work/life balance AT ALL. Taking time off is not only discouraged, but made clear it isn't supported. All the job postings are false- there is no "PR associate" or whatever disillusioned description of selling skin care inside of an HEB. The worst part is the unprofessional, judgmental,...

      Advice to Management

I genuinely don't think you can run this business without the lies and manipulation- all successful offices are built on drawing in naive recent graduates into thinking they can own their own business by conning other people into the same thing. Maybe one day you'll put your efforts into bettering people's lives through your work, rather than just filling your bank account.

I worked at Highland Presents full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Good energy, probably the one positive thing about this company.. Beyond that its trash..

      Cons

Oh where to start, long hours.. no time off.. TERRIBLE pay, they con you into doing cold sales at an HEB on irrelevant products such as skin care or really uncomfortable bamboo pillows. Also they had a plastic shower head that was very cheaply made that you had to sale for minimum wage and commission, and even when you do make commission they still scam you out of it at the end of the week..Trash company

      Advice to Management

I know if you were honest about the actual job nobody would ever work for you.. But with that being said you should at least tell people what they are really in for instead of glorifying some false job

I worked at Highland Presents full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Zero. None. Nada. Nothing. i can not think of anything good to say about this place.

      Cons

Terrible hours. Have to go to morning meetings which are unpaid (including weekends) even on your days off. You take care of all inventory and stocking with no extra pay. All commission or minimum wage (which ever is higher). Stand in grocery stores all days trying to sell irrelevant merchandise. They try to brainwash you and overwork you to the bone.

      Advice to Management

      shut down.

        Pros

i cannot think of any pros to this job.

        Cons

The job makes you go to stores and try to sell products to people who are entering and leaving the stores. You get paid off commission.

        Advice to Management

Advertise the job for what it is.
