I worked at Hill Physicians Medical Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I liked most people I worked with. The CEO and CAO are very down to earth and friendly. Working environment is not bad except a few haughty people, especially in "Clinical Team", with bad attitude but they are usually everywhere, not only this company. Offers opportunities to learn new skills (SAS EG, Tableau, SSRS, ....etc.).

    Cons

No room to grow once you reach a certain level. I would have stayed only if there were more opportunities for advancement. But for mid-size company there are limitations. Upper management promoted a few "unqualified" people to management positions and passed over the "qualified" ones causing brain-drain in the company.

    Advice to Management

A good worker is not always the "friendliest" person or a "good talker" but is someone who gets the job done. I have seen too many people getting promoted solely on their ability to be able to "talk the talk" but not "walk the walk".

Listen to your employees and seek employee input prior to major changes

I have been working at Hill Physicians Medical Group full-time

    Pros

work life balance. wellness incentives (ie, free day of PTO if you participate in wellness events., prizes when competing in wellness challenges, discount on monthly health plan premiums or cash incentives if you don't subscribe to their benefits). Free classes surrounding wellness (ie. exercise classes, meditation, massage and lectures) all done on the clock (and often). Most departments work from home several days a week and are salaried positions. This is a real plus, as you are almost never expected to work past your 8hr work day and if you do, it still paid at full pay. They also have bonuses and monthly rewards (if you get a Kudos from a team member, you are entered into a drawing for a Target gift card). The pay is very competitive.

    Cons

Not many opportunities for advancement. Not forward thinkers, New and innovative ideas are not often implemented.

    Advice to Management

Create more opportunities for advancement and encourage creativity. Do away with so many high level management positions and create more mid-level positions.

    Pros

Great opportunities for growth throughout the company.

    Cons

As an industry that is predominantly female, there are a lot of office politics that go around.

    Advice to Management

Watch lower-level managers a little more closely to combat favoritism in the workplace.

I worked at Hill Physicians Medical Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Had some interesting employee benefits;nice 301k matching;focus on wellness; people seem to stay a long time

    Cons

People seem to stay a long time; people didn't seem to have the right skills;saw people rehired who were poisonous to the culture and people and they were still brought back. Some managers lacked basic skills to be managers and saw conflicts of interest..that apparently weren't known to managers. Seemed that being nice to people was more important than getting the job done;saw projects go in circles for months and months because of some bad seeds that no body seemed to be able to extricate. While people were nice, witnessing some of this convinced me that this wasn't the place for me. Too small of an org to be doing end runs, and spoon feed a few people who should not be in their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Loyalty is good but longevity is not always the best thing for the business. Take a hard look at who is running some of your departments and who is moving ahead and why.

    Pros

Sanctuary company for the many dead-weight, can sweep anything under the rug, management will not know, nor care.

    Cons

Zero, zip, zilch, nada accountability. The abundance of dead-weight will eventually drag the few competent staff and the company down. When [blank] hits the fan, the dead-weight will either feign ignorance and someone else will do it, or apply lousy band-aids that will break open again. Either nothing will get done or takes forever to get anything done.

Culture of mediocrity, low expectations, definitely not for the ambitious.

    Advice to Management

Hold people accountable, identify the dead-weight, get rid of them, or they will repulse and get rid of the few competent staff you have remaining. Company is paying good money for these tech people, and all the company is getting in return are lousy, multi-year delayed systems, and AOL-inspired Web sites.

    Pros

They really care about their people - some really nice benefits to address wellness and balance. There is a familial spirit here with many employees dating back 10-15+ years. The company is going through a lot of change.

    Cons

For those who have high work ethic they may find it problematic to work here. Lack of accountability runs high within various departments, innovation limited, and what feels like complacency may very well be confused with no sense of urgency. Not uncommon to see people in positions with the wrong/no skill set.

    Advice to Management

The company will succeed through its people.Invest in them. Look at hiring good talent and eliminating people who are ineffective. Listen to their needs and support them. The senior management team will need to be champions of change and empower their direct reports to be change leaders. This is the only way your company will be successful.
