I have been working at Hill-Rom full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Fast paced, days go by quickly. HSA Healthcare with Blue Cross Blue Shield, my family of six I pay alittle over $200 a payday, for medical, dental and vision. Very nice SOS a d Great SOM, could be just my area. Stock purchase program and 401k, with company invested. Bonus program. Working in the Field you meet great people daily!

    Cons

Being a Field Service Technician without a company vehicle stucks, but they do pay mileage for my personal car. Some guys are hard to get along with but you find that everywhere. Training is in Batesville... boring small town.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

I have been working at Hill-Rom full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good health insurance cheaper than most places

    Cons

I work at the Plano TX branch, by any means avoid working for that particular location, 16 people have left in less than a year.. Micromanaging and a lot of unprofessionalism. If you call in sick and bring a doctors note you get an occurrence point. Even with a note. If someone hits your company truck they always say it’s your fault and that it can be avoided. The job title its wrong because once you start all you... do is deliver beds! Not repairs its a delivery job. Alot of promises to get you in and once you start everything promised changes. Miscommunication is a big issue here and organizational skills. Training should be in Batesville Indiana but apparently they haven’t sent any employees for the past 2-3 years.

    Advice to Management

Look into management at this location asap. Before all the employees start leaving, 16+ people in less than a year? Who is the problem here??

I have been working at Hill-Rom part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great atmosphere Work load is light Not a lot of overhead

    Cons

There isn't any interaction between co-workers. You never see them. With the company being based in Batesville, I never know what is going on, I just hear through the grapevine.

I worked at Hill-Rom full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Stable and good company, with some very good Directors. Great 401K and decent health benefits. On site cafe has great food and great options in a small town.

    Cons

Uncertainty about long term viability in Batesville. Seem to only be worried about developing their new hires and not their talent that came from elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

To not only give opportunities to new hires.

  5. "Engineering Intern Experience"

    I worked at Hill-Rom

    Pros

Headquarters exists in Batesville, IN, so it is easy to get around and see all pieces of puzzle, from concept to engineering to manufacturing and testing; got to meet engineers in multiple roles during internship; located in a small town (good for raising a family, safety, quiet life, reasonable housing prices)

    Cons

Engineers seem to be placed in solely paperwork/validation roles and get burnt out easily; management seems to be filled with older men resistant to change; not a diverse work environment; undergoing their second FDA examination during my time there (indicative of persistent problems in design/testing/keeping paperwork); located in a very small town (would not be good for people interested in night life, meeting... different types of people, city life)

    I worked at Hill-Rom

    Pros

Market leader, number one in very profitable healthcare business. Has capital and market power to do many things to continue to grow.

    Cons

Physical location. Batesville IN is very rural. Dairy Queen is the best restaurant in town. Town is not the most progressive or open-minded place you've ever lived in.

    Advice to Management

Create a satellite office in a major metro, youll get many more well qualified candidates.

I worked at Hill-Rom full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good company in a niche market, well managed. Management is willing to train and promote from within. Based in Batesville, IN and has branches in virtually every major city. Regional managers almost all have been promoted from within and understand the jobs they are supervising.

    Cons

Downsizing occured and the details are still being worked out. Temp workers are brought in to do warehouse work and don't always provide the real help needed. Some disconnect between the home office and individual branches that must operate in slightly different ways than the 'norm'.

I worked at Hill-Rom full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Training is excellent. - Interesting work. - Star employees are rewarded. - Flexible schedule. Easy to work from home.

    Cons

    - Uncertainty over the company’s future. Past seems brighter than the future. - Company’s vision is more talk than ability to execute. Grand ideas from execs never materialize. - Doesn’t invest enough in parts of the business that are doing well. - Executives in Chicago are disconnected from the rest of the company in Batesville, IN. - Can’t attract quality talent to HQ in Batesville, IN. Investing in other... geographic areas, but this is causing tension in the company. - Having difficulty convincing customers of the value of Hill-Rom's products. - Aging and unmotivated workforce. Many people have been with the company for many years and are just staying so they can take an early retirement package. - Risk-adverse culture that is slow to change. May be in part due to fear of the FDA. - Understaffed and underperforming teams.
