I have been working at Hillsborough Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great group of people. Especially the office staff. And after coming from a big university, it was nice to teach in such small, intimate settings.

    Cons

I wish I saw more activities taking place while I am there, but I have come to understand Friday afternoons/evening isn't exactly the time when students are clamoring to take courses.

I have been working at Hillsborough Community College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great time off with paid spring break and paid ten days off at Christmas. They pay the employee portion of the HMO health and dental insurance. You get one paid vacation day a month.

    Cons

Year and half salary study puts over 60 positions substantially under market. Advisors, Shipping staff, Coordinators, Warehouse staff underpaid by $10K, The instructors are among lowest paid in the area and the college doesn't pay more for advanced degrees, earning a degree, or for seniority in any position. New employees often come in making nearly what 20 year employees make. College has too many directors, deans, assistant deans, presidents, special assistants, etc; very top heavy with well paid administrators.

I worked at Hillsborough Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This community college services its community in the best way and to the best of its ability. Its not perfect, as no education institution is, but it does the job and has earned the respect of its peers. The employment process is simple -- if not lengthy -- and there is somewhat frequent communication from the HR team.

    Cons

It is a community college and includes all the chaos that entails. There is tons of bureaucracy and layers of red-tape, but the students get a quality education at the price point. The employees are treated pretty well and most people seem content.

I have been working at Hillsborough Community College part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work with dedicated nursing professionals who want to turn out excellent RNs. I like that they also have standards and do not permit just anyone to enter nursing school. Being selective means that the best candidates become students and future nurses.

    Cons

I do not have any negative comments about HCC; it is a great school and most likely sets the bar for a two-year degree to become a registered nurse.

    Advice to Management

I do not have any advice for management. I have been treated well and fairly for the past 6 years.
