I have been working at Hillyard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Outstanding culture. This company treats people well and really does operate in a fair and practical way.

No ridiculous meetings. No wasted time. A very positive environment.

    Cons

Would like 401k match sooner but other than that I think Hillyard is a great place to work.

I think this is a great opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for maintaining a great culture.

I have been working at Hillyard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small company , lower number of employees

    Cons

Management needs to be more sympathetic when it comes to employees needs. I had a death in family and asked for time off to go to funeral, and was denied and then was told to turn in my uniforms and leave. What kind of company is run like this. ? Stay clear that is all I have to say.

    Advice to Management

Get more traiing in your company policies, and be more sympathetic to employees.

I have been working at Hillyard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

OK benefits . The in house employees are all kind hearted and want to have a good place to work but upper management ruined it over the years

    Cons

Overworked and underpaid, imbalanced workload. Majority of the work falls into a small group of people. Understaffed and refuse to hire or increase pay

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees and they will take care of your customers

I have been working at Hillyard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I really love this company. Everyone is friendly and always willing to help. Hard work does not go unnoticed. Individuals are recognized for doing a good job. As a janitorial company, most customers are very patient and friendly, as many of them are custodians who do not feel entitled to things in life. I worked in a corporate environment prior to this, and will probably never go back. I love that my coworkers and I are such a tight knit group. The work is relatively easy, however, I would say the most important asset is learning how to juggle multiple tasks at once. This job will certainly test your ability to multitask! Day to day is usually quick paced, resulting in the days going by quickly. You will not often find yourself staring at the clock thinking about how slowly time is moving. Overall, I strongly recommend Hillyard!

    Cons

The only con in my opinion is the vacation time. You only get one week of vacation your first year, plus one personal day. Also, if you start late in the year, you won't be given any vacation time until the following January. NO sick time is given until you've been there a full year. Even then, you only get 2 days. This makes it very difficult to plan any real "vacation" in your first year - it really only gives you the ability to take 3 day weekends here and there.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. It is greatly appreciated how hard work is not gone unnoticed. I also love how even the company "big wigs" seem to know every employee my name, and treat them with the utmost respect.

I worked at Hillyard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay. However, it stops there. Sadly, there is a 20-word minimum required.

    Cons

Management is proud of being confrontational. What started out as a 1040 position slowly tried to morph into a 1099. Expenses weren't reimbursed, including mileage.

    Advice to Management

Be honest to people you are hiring. Get management who wants your people to succeed, not try to pick fights and belittle.

I worked at Hillyard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My experience was a terrific one. All the employees were friendly and helpful and it was wonderful to interact with the customers.

    Cons

Length of the commute. I drove 20 miles one way to get to my place of employment. Some of the drive was on the freeway so that wasn't so bad, but the remainder was through town which was congested with traffic.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management is to keep on doing what you do. They were kind and helpful and made the atmosphere of the workplace like a family.
