I have been working at Hilti North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong commitment from the shareholder, heavy investment in R&D, growing and successful, lots to learn, move to Plano (Dallas) opened up many opportunities, construction an interesting industry. Genuinely tries and does live the core values of integrity, teamwork, commitment and courage.

    Cons

Pays well but not great, pace of work is high, rewarding if you're young / mobile - less so if you want to stay in the same role / same place (unless it's sales), Swiss culture so sometimes slow to make decisions / analysis-paralysis, processes slow / cumbersome occasionally (easier to ask forgiveness than permission).

    Advice to Management

The new "up or out" approach to career development is a little disappointing. Hilti North America is becoming the place for international and external hires. Not so much for internal / existing talent. Remember we need both!

    Pros

Company genuinely cares about being a great place to work, attracting top-shelf talent, and being the best partner for their customers. Sales targets are ambitious, but there is support available and the rewards for performance are substantial, whether financial or career development opportunities. The culture is very strong and pervasive, but overwhelmingly positive if you buy in.

    Cons

Success is rewarded with either financial benefits (merit increases, AM level promotions) OR career opportunities, but not both. There are so many initiatives going on that it can be hard to decode what really matters.

    Advice to Management

Keep building the culture, clarify the strategies and metrics that matter the most, and don't present mutually exclusive performance rewards.

    Pros

Hilti is a unique organization in the way it brings products to our customers. The majority of our products and services were developed by Hilti for our customers and are manufactured in our own facilities. We primarily market and distribute products online, over the phone, in retail Hilit Centers and by local account managers. This means we need great people. People who understand customer needs, logistics, marketing, finance, manufacturing, product development, and leadership. A career at Hilti can touch any and all of these areas - and that is exciting.

    Cons

The only con is that all of the opportunities above are not located in one place. So if you desire to do all these things in a career you, must be willing to accept the adventure of a living in a place away from home.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing - in people development, in software and services, and in innovative new products the customer doesn't yet know they NEED!

    Pros

Culture of team work and collaboration, never had anyone say no when I asked for help, extensive and continuous training / learning, company is investing heavily in people, products, services, software and infrastructure. Move to Dallas opened up so many opportunities for your significant other vs. previously possible in Tulsa. North America is an exciting place to be within the global organizations. Opportunities to move around and even go international if you're able and willing.

    Cons

Swiss company so decision making velocity can be slow. Matrix organization means a lot of work getting people onboard. Compensation is low for high cost markets. The vast majority of field sales vehicles do not have a back seat so working parents can struggle to get kids to / from school. Relocation policies have improved but still mean significant out of pocket impact for employees in high cost areas.

    Advice to Management

Overall the company is doing well, investing substantially and putting its money where its mouth is. 90% killer, 10% filler. We need help with attracting and retaining talent in high cost areas. Partly to address cost of living. Partly to address cost of relocation. And mostly to address working parents in expensive areas where dual incomes are often the only way to make the numbers work.

    Pros

The job can be a lot of fun particularly when business is booming. You are helping customers, selling great products, and making some money.

    Cons

There can be large fluctuations in income that are beyond the control of the individual. When the market slows down, you will be working extra hard to make very little in return.

    Advice to Management

Create avenues for earnings advancement to those that are not Thunderbirds or hired in Europe.

    Cons

compensation is a little weak and so was there new insurance pkg.

    Advice to Management

while exceeding all sales goals and earning all awards assoc.of quarter regional multiple times to include
multiple presidents club awards there did not seem to be any way to increase my base pay because in the end we all work to prosper
