I have been working at Hilton Grand Vacations full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The professional work environment is second to none. The quality of the culture is something that this industry strives for but rarely achieves. People who work here have a career, not a job.

    Cons

It is a results based business, so sometimes good people don't make it. Sales is not for everyone and the really good ones make it look easy. It is not an easy job and it is not for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Continue the path that you are currently on. It is effective and working.

I have been working at Hilton Grand Vacations full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy schedule, short 6-7 hour shifts, off weekends and most holidays. Great commissions and spiffs, and really good benefits. Family atmosphere, birthday parties, dinners and other team activities on regular basis.

    Cons

No salary, just minimum wage draw. Management used to just give performance goals to hit and otherwise allowed self management. This has recently become more micro management. Having no salary to speak of makes micromanagement almost disgusting to deal with. Also the goals are getting to the point that doing the right thing for people is gone, just sell them whether it works for client or not. Sell sell sell sell sell. Becoming pirates basically.

    Advice to Management

Timeshare sales is a feel good business, and also should be helping families spend more quality time not just upgrading the same families over and over again. Also there is no customer service for the clients, and customer service agents have nasty attitudes. This is a systemic problem everywhere. Everyone seems to be nice to take money from people but then become nasty after their money is taken. Management has a huge disconnect with the clients, all coming no doubt from an organization that cares only for their bottom line and not for value or customer service. HGV is not Hilton

I worked at Hilton Grand Vacations full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The name itself made me proud to work for this company.

    Cons

A lot of politics and negative energy. No concern for my growth in sales. They would not help to ensure my success. It felt like being in highschool and I was not a part of the popular crowd, although I feel I was an exemplary employee. I never called out sick or gossiped, and treated my fellow co-workers with respect.

    Advice to Management

Now that I have had the chance to work at a different company that actually makes me feel important and cherished, I realize that while I was with HGVC, it was in fact not me that was the problem. I felt so bad about myself, I was not good enough to have the privilege to be a Sales Executive at the BLVD location. After working 2 years for the company and a whole year focused on doing what I could to move into sales, I was just swept aside like I was nothing. You let go a great employee that, with a little encouragement and positive reinforcement, would have been your top sales agent. You never gave me a chance to prove it. Just automatically assuming I did not have what it takes to be in sales. They say that there was no "love-line" and all guests are potential buyers, but I found this to be untrue as well. You had your favorites and I was not one of them. At least this is how I was made to feel. Also, the expectation of getting 2 sales within your first 45 tours was completely unrealistic especially for a person brand new to sales. As with any job, 3 month probation should be given to ensure a true test of how well a person will work out. Especially when my 45 tours was during the slowest part of the sales season. Now with my current company, I have made 2 sales within my first 10 tours. I have heard from about 5 different people that currently work with Hilton or had previously worked there, that say how sad it is that you throw away good people all for the sake of making more money, if that even makes sense. I was told I was "managed" out. Why? I never did anything bad, I was nice to everyone and everyone liked me. Guests loved me and my presentations, I just needed to learn more sales techniques. If you kept the good, quality people and worked with them to become successful, you would have your high sales volume. And in turn save money on having to constantly train new people over and over again. As with any failed department, I expect the little bubble to burst over there. It is too bad, because this could have been avoided. And lastly, I had shown interest in going into the CRM department on numerous occasions, but again was turned away. There was no opportunity to go anywhere expect in gifting making $13 an hour. No one can make a living on that salary. I felt like I was not good enough for any sort of advancement and was blocked at every turn. It was as if you had to know someone to get a boost.

I have been working at Hilton Grand Vacations full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Powerful brand and industry leading product with an above average approach to sales and marketing. Forward thinking, progressive and integrity orientated.

    Cons

Poor internal structure and development system. Tendency is to promote based on personal relationships versus performance, experience, and talent quotients. Due to lax corporate oversight, company directives and processes are left to interpretation and sometimes outright abrogation by regional leaders leading to mixed messages and lurching priorities. Sales compensation lags compared to closest competitors.

    Advice to Management

Be a leader in compensation (for all not just a few). Develop an enterprise-wide top down managerial hierarchy that leaves little to interpretation with real consequences for rogue actors. Allow regional leaders to "Shine within the Lines" instead of creating their own boundaries and influence factions. Empower corporate leaders to provide true oversight, direction and where necessary correction. Uncouple HR from Sales, only bad things happen when this relationship is too close. Rome wasn't built in a day...but it fell in one year.

    Pros

Good Environment, competitive pay, and family friendly environment.

    Cons

It can be hard to be promoted sometimes. The jobs are available, but the opportunities are pretty competitive based on the decision between external vs. internal candidates.

    Advice to Management

    No advice.
