Career growth and good people
Apr 9, 2023 - Sales in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Hireology does a great job of making every sales team member feel like they are making an impact on company goals. If you are experienced in enterprise SaaS sales, you’ll likely earn double your base salary in total annual OTE. Sales reps have lots of freedom to manage their book however they like and target multiple different revenue lanes. Benefits are solid across the board and work life balance is not only encouraged by leadership, but practiced as well. The sales team is truly enjoyable to be around and has some sharp sales minds who are passionate about driving growth for the organization
Cons
This is a dynamic sales role with daily responsibilities changing based on priorities for that day. Some days are meeting heavy, other days are admin/prep heavy. Some days you have plenty of free time to prospect, other days you are slammed with projects all day. It’s hard to get into a routine/work flow

Steadily declining into a toxic place to work
Apr 10, 2023 - Customer SuccessRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Your coworkers, Unlimited PTO, monthly mental health days, fun events 2x a year, and good work life balance.
Cons
No career growth whatsoever even though we preach we do nothing but internal career growth. Positions are constantly being eliminated or not back filled to “save money”. Processes are constantly changing and nothings set in stone. Upper management decided to change everything without having a plan in place for our team causing an unreal amount of tension between sales and customer success. The absolute worst of all is how horribly we are all overworked and way way way underpaid. We aren’t just a little below industry average we are way below industry average. Myself and my coworkers have all but begged for raises but they don’t care for inflation, cost of living, or any or that. The reason is it’s a “break even year”. You would think you would properly pay the people who worked so hard to get you there. This used to be an amazing place to work but management has made it clear our quality of life doesn't matter to them, we are expendable and they'll make a buck expending us.

Pros
When I first started here everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, talked about the people and the culture and I was a little skeptical. Can people really love their company that much? Fast forward a year later and I'm the one screaming from the rooftops how amazing the co workers, leadership and culture is. The leadership at Hireology is so on top of industry trends and they work to position ourselves to be the leader in this space. Lastly, I've raised my hand a few times to provide feedback, raise concerns and advocate for change and every time these conversations were met with respect, listening ears and a willingness to make a change or improvement.
Cons
Like I mentioned before, we are constantly adapting to continue to be leaders within this space and that can mean a lot of change in process.

Great company, little growth opportunity
Mar 13, 2023 - Customer Success Manager in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Unlimited pto (can't take more than 35 days), 401k + match, health insurance, dental, vision, great co-workers, fun onsite events quarterly.
Cons
Little to no growth opportunity; someone would need to leave the Senior Customer Success Manager role for it to be open to others being promoted and then there would be 6 CSM's gunning for it. Pay is not equal across the board in most departments. I make less than the average CSM in Chicago.

I'm really making a difference
Jan 17, 2023 - Implementation ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
My interview process took just one week, which shows you that this HR Tech company takes hiring seriously. The people first and 'no a-holes' culture is so real. I have made amazing friends from my colleagues and there are always opportunities to recognize good work. My clients/customers are typically great to work with since we've been targeting the right client type, and I can see how my work is contributing to the bigger picture. And even though I'm remote, I really cherish my time meeting people face-to-face because the office is always open. I'm also able to engage in career pathing and see what I'm working towards!
Cons
The business is shifting rapidly (in a good way- changing its organization framework, trying to hone in on lofty goals) and this had led to some people no longer working with the company. Not a true con for me though, because concerns are being acknowledged by management, so our team feels safe and knows what's happening.

Pros
Great benefits and schedule flexibility. Leadership feels committed to making positive change.
Cons
Sometimes unorganized in their execution of lofty goals. CRM is often wildly inaccurate and requires a lot of data integrity work before you can start selling.

Pros
Hireology has one of the best culture's and work environments I have ever been apart of. Software sales can be a challenging industry, but when you have the leadership and support we do here- it makes every challenge something to be excited to take on!
Cons
We are growing and changing the way we structure our business. To some this may be a negative in the fact that there is a lot of change and trial and error, but I love it!

Strong DEI Culture!
Jun 28, 2022 - User Experience Manager in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I started at Hireology recently, and I am so thrilled to be here. The benefits and perks are stellar: robust professional development budget, unlimited PTO, commuting benefits, health benefits, structured bonus company-wide, and more! My favorite thing though, is that how are committed everyone here is to supporting a diverse team, in very real ways. At past companies, I have always had to be on our diversity or DEI councils, because I was one of only a few voices speaking up about diversity and inclusion. Not here at Hireology! Our DEI team is thriving and robust, so much that I don't feel like my voice is even needed at the table. That means that I can focus on doing my actual job because I am able to trust that our DEI team is doing a phenomenal job pushing for those values that mean so much to me. It's such a wonderful thing to feel so supported here to be out and proud, especially at a company this size. Plus, our LGBTQ+ Slack channel is very active; it's quickly become my favorite place on the internet. Additionally, this dedication to diversity is not just about lower-level staff! All the way up to our CEO, this dedication to diversity is evident. I felt completely comfortable reaching out to our CEO about making some language more inclusive when he was communicating about supporting reproductive rights, and he welcomed the feedback with grace and kindness. That's the kind of company I can be proud of working for.
Cons
If you aren't cool with working remotely, it might be a challenge. Or if you never want to visit an office in-person, that could be a drawback since we try to get the entire staff together twice a year.

Engineering department has gone downhill fast
Jan 3, 2023 - Front End EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Awesome coworkers Great collaboration between team members
Cons
New management has come in to the department in the last 6 months or so, and the department has gone steeply downhill. There's been a few rounds of layoffs. There's little to no transparency or even communication when decisions are made. Management talks like they are open to discourse, but once they hear your comment nothing will change. Performance review feedback has been a surprise. No promotions were given this year because of a lack of finances, but several hires have been made. In short, the emphasis has moved quickly from people to the product, and the department has suffered for it. Pay is also abysmal for the industry.

Company has been on a steady plateau/decline from what it used to be
Jan 6, 2023 - ProductRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I worked at Hireology from 2019-2022. Let me start off with the positives: WLB was definitely solid at this company, and I always appreciated that unlimited PTO was actually treated that way, along with monthly mental health days. The office in Chicago was really nice, and I worked with some amazing people during my 3 years at the company. Super nice folks who were always down to help. Finally, I always appreciated how easily Hireology let people get a taste for work in other departments through job shadowing and mentorship programs. I saw tons of folks switch careers while at Hireology and open new doors for themselves, which is awesome.
Cons
I saw a lot of change happen at Hireology during my 3 years there, and unfortunately, not a lot of it was positive. Rather than a list of small qualms, I'll try to be productive and list off what I saw were major flaws with the company's mindset and the issues that it led to. First, during my 3 years there this was a software company where the software almost seemed to be the lowest priority. At company meetings (both company-wide and more private internal ones) it seemed like most of the attention was always on Sales and Customer Success. Those departments grew like crazy during my time there, and the good performers in there were treated like A-list celebrities by leadership. Not saying they didn't deserve it though, because they were awesome people. However, on the other side of the spectrum, Product was a revolving door of leaders and PMs. In 3 years there were 3 different VPs of Product, and dozens of PMs who came and went. From both personal experience and the folks I talked to, the culture in the Product org was always bordering on toxic. Certain individuals in the org got super defensive when any of their ideas received pushback, borderline bullied others, and some honestly just did not have very good product ideas. I saw two Product folks break down crying when we went to grab drinks during an offsite which was eye-opening. Then there's the engineering department, what seemed like the neglected child of the company during my time there. I made some good friends in the engineering org, and from what I understand the code the team worked with was a mess. On top of that, constant re-orgs motivated by what Product wanted to do resulted in very inefficiently organized teams (never worked at a place that separated their engineering teams by front-end and back-end, with very little interaction between the two). To top it off, engineering leadership was super slow to do something about poor performers. I'd constantly hear "yeah so-and-so barely does anything" and that person had worked at the company for years! Sounds like the new CTO has been shaking things up quite a bit though, so maybe that'll improve. But to summarize this point, Product was the weakest part of this company when I worked there, and when you have a bad Product it's harder for people to sell it, it's harder to retain customers, and engineers aren't very motivated to build it. Second, I've never seen a company be so resistant to pay its employees a competitive wage. Hireology always tried to compensate for this by saying their great WLB and people-first culture made up for it, but unfortunately that doesn't really pay the bills. This was fine at first and people kind of accepted the reality, but wow it came to a head during the hiring craze of 2021. That year it became clear that other companies around the country could offer way more in terms of salary (along with equally good WLB and other benefits) and Hireology could not (or refused to) compete. The turnover the company saw in 2021 was almost indescribable. It felt like every other week someone from a team was putting in their 2-weeks notice. I was also part of the hiring process for folks during this year, and we lost countless amazing candidates because we weren't allowed to match or beat competing offers they received. When we could finally get someone on board, they were solid but definitely not our top choice for a candidate. I don't want to harp on anyone's work abilities, but I will say that you get what you pay for. Finally, the company's culture definitely declined during my 3 years there. We had a lot of leadership turnover starting in late 2020 (and during the 2021 hiring craze) and it seemed like everyone who was hired next was a step down from the role they were filling (could be related to the above issue if C-suite comp packages weren't very competitive either). Things started to feel a lot more corporate, questions and responses at Town Halls felt a lot more like PR statements, and overall the company just didn't feel like the close-knit community I joined. This would make sense if we'd grown to thousands of employees, but headcount never stayed above 200 during my tenure so it doesn't really fit.
