I worked at Hisco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice work environment with smiling faces, employees are treated well. Tons of camaraderie and culture, team building exercises, product training, and invest in their employees' professional growth through seminars and conferences. ESOP Picnics and Christmas' parties are the best in class.

    Cons

Overworked employees (at least when I was there)

    Pros

Great retirement plan with both a 5% salary company contribution and 15% salary ESOP contribution for employee stock ownership program.

    Cons

High turnover and frequent lay offs of high level people at once, no raises seen for the entire duration of my employment period, no solid career path or opportunities for advancement for the majority of employees there.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to focus on allowing managers to do their job they are hired to do instead of hiring a manager and their direct manager micro managing them to the point they are doing their job for them.

I have been working at Hisco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Esop is a good program, but it has lost more than a quarter of its value in the last 2 years. There really isn't a lot of good reasons to work at Hisco. It used to be good, but now, with all the Executives they have hired, it's all about them getting more and more money while the Company suffers and lays people off.

    Cons

No opportunities unless you are buddy-buddy with the Executives.

    Advice to Management

Do what you were hired to do, and not just coast along for your paycheck.

I have been working at Hisco (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with and most managers are OK as well. Good culture overall in corporate.
ESOP so the benefits and contributions are generous.

    Cons

Industry is on a downturn and gross sales for distributors is down. Management has been becoming less empoyee-centric over the past two years. Salaries are a little lower because of long-term company contributions.

I worked at Hisco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Demanding, but progressive. Good pay, a good challenge.

    Cons

Each branch runs like a separate business leading to a different experience per branch. VERY demanding.

    Advice to Management

Be more inclusive, strive towards less turnover.

I have been working at Hisco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Forward-thinking company that puts ownership in the employee's hands through the ESOP structure. This drives an amazing culture where all employees feel a duty to deliver the highest possible level of customer experience. The company is in a transition to be a stronger competitor across all channels and is strongly embracing new digital enablement of the business. Leadership team and many 2nd level leaders are new within the past 2-3 years so there is tremendous amount of talent. Employees in general are embracing the many changes that come from transforming a company - keeping the best of the past but embracing the new digital future.

    Cons

While field based teams are on board with the evolution of the company, they are still adjusting to the many new areas of company centralization. Also the company launched the website very fast to establish a web presence and it is still in the improve phase. I expect in early 2016 that the website will be perhaps the best for any mid-size industrial distributor but more work needs to be done to deliver a great online customer experience.

    Advice to Management

Continue doing what you have been - keep open communication about our strategy, plans and how we are performing as a business. Employee owners appreciate understanding the details of where we are going and how we will get there.

    Cons

In the middle of a transitional phase that is difficult but will ultimately be extremely rewarding.

    Pros

Employee owned. Strong NA footprint. Good reputation in marketplace, especially in electronics assembly. Top management seeks input from employees and listens.

    Cons

Still very local branch-centric. Playing catch up very late in the game to handle customers globally. Competitors have caught up and passed them. Customer service has lagged.

    Advice to Management

Rebuild customer service to improve responsiveness. Break down barriers to managing customer globally.
