I worked at Hitachi Construction Machinery full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As a former office employee it was clear that the work environment was very relaxed. Stress was at a minimum and depending on your supervisor, you could have flexibility in work schedule, time off, etc. The majority of the people are great to work with and the systems put in place (IE, computer hardware) are updated on a more regular basis than most other companies. Benefits are very good.

This is a good stepping stone (depending on your job title) if you plan on passing through between 1-2 years of employment max. Any longer and the complacent culture will definitely hinder your career prospects in the future.

    Cons

    - There is a huge disparity between office staff and employees on the floor leading to very poor moral.

    - Pay scale is very low compared to industry standards and there is a clear lack of reward for work achievements. You can cost through your job and it will most certainly result in the same financial compensations as those who work efficiently and diligently.

    - Management lacks common direction and this trickles down to constant direction changes. Timelines are constantly revised and extended.

-HR greatly lacks intelligent resources and this is well known between the office staff and shop floor employees alike.

    - There is no opportunities for advancement

Over all, lack of leadership and common direction between management, HR and shop floor employees lead to a poor moral.

    Advice to Management

A major restructuring of the company using a top down approach is essential to maximizing the efficiency of this company. Regular scheduled meetings, strict adherence to time lines and employment of staff that are capable and well financially compensated for their abilities is a must to gain and retain talent that will benefit the future of the company and the product.

I have been working at Hitachi Construction Machinery full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Coworkers, opportunities to travel see the world and meet new people and experience new cultures. Strong bonds among the workers.

    Cons

Terrible Management. Very old traditional Japanese company stuck in its misogynistic and "Japanese supremacy" ways.

Very thick Japanese ceiling with promotions earned due to ethnicity rather than ability. You may very well end up working for a Japanese manager with absolutely no experience in the job function they have just been promoted into. We had a Japanese manager with 0 years after sales support experience managing a team with a combined 200+ years experience.

    Advice to Management

Change. Start promoting the worthy instead of just the Japanese. Respect your non-Japanese staff more. Be less misogynistic and racist and more honest.
