I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed how professional yet personal the employees were. Dynamic atmosphere where I sincerely felt that people cared about me in all senses

    Cons

My position was rescinded due to the difficult year of transition that the company experienced. This was a disappointment but an understandable situation.

    Advice to Management

Wishing the company all the best in this year of transition and change.

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hitachi is a great company dedicated to becoming a leader in professional services, primarily IT Consulting.

    Cons

As a member of the Core, it can be difficult to get bosses to appreciate your work-life balance. Entirely dependent on who your manager is for a given project.

    Advice to Management

Create more transparency during the interview process and during first months working for the company so people know what to expect.

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very organized as a corporation. Everything is ready for you on our first day, processes work. People are experienced and have the technical chops they need for the job.

    Cons

Very organized as a corporation... Too much so. There are several layers of people everywhere you look, and hierarchy is paramount to them. Everyone thinks highly of his or herself - "I am a VP"... "I am a SENIOR VP"... "I am an EXECUTIVE SENIOR GLOBAL VP"... you catch my drift?
You end up stumbling upon too many people, you never know who actually should be engaged with your work.

Help is minimal. You are supposed to get in, magically find out who you need to talk to, and make things happen from thin air. Team work is little (at least in Sales). People want to make their quota, earn their commission, at the expense of doing what is right for the company.

There could be much more being done if they revamped their commission structure to allow people to collaborate, and reduced the number of employees by a third. There would be no impact on the work being done, but a good boost to the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

    * Take a hard close look at how many people you have in all your different levels.
    * Reorganize your structure to facilitate sales, and not to hinder them.
    * Cross functional sales should be promoted and rewards shared equally (I am looking at you, Oracle and SAP folks that do not involve Cloud and AMS teams into your pursuits).
    * For god's sake, get rid of Oracle time and expense reporting. It is the most time consuming thing I have ever seen

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Compensation for good performers makes you feel appreciated.
Given more responsibility sooner, which helps you grow faster.
Project Managers try and provide work life balance

    Cons

Career advisor program could be more robust. Would like to see leadership take a more active role in developing new talent.
Need better training. Elearning courses do not provide adequate training.

    Advice to Management

Overall a great place to work. I see myself staying here for the foreseeable future. Invest more in the training and mentoring of your employees.

I worked at Hitachi Consulting (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work life balance. Good place to start your career for 1 year and then switch somewhere else to hone in on tangible skills

    Cons

Poor mentorship and poor training and growth

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is plenty of opportunity to be staffed in varying roles. M-Th travel is standard with some flexibility.

    Cons

The annual review process focuses too little on the quality/quantity of work delivered and too much on the local popularity contest.

    Advice to Management

While the culture of the company you are trying to establish is commendable, dont punish people that work very hard traveling for "not coming into the office for face time enough"

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are all very kind and casual, everyone I've worked with has a can-do attitude, the work-life balance is paramount and they allow you the time to tend to your own life when needed, the on-the-job learning is unmatched

    Cons

HCC has trouble retaining entry-level consultants through the manager level, many leave because of pay increases elsewhere, not much pre-scripted training and much of your career is self led.

    Advice to Management

Give pay increases and added responsibility to SC level employees, ask more delivery of your VP levels, not all sales. Maybe reduce the number of VPs on staff.

They focus on IT projects and less management consulting projects.

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Individual contributors are the salvation of the company in spite of Hitachi's manglement (that's mangle and management combined).

    Cons

Zero strategy or tactical approach to client growth and management. I can look around and see the same middle managers and vice president stuck in the same title for the last 10 years, mostly because they don't deserve promotion and they haven't been let go. Customer management and relationship building is largely non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Find an identity and create a real culture. Bring the client into the equation by fostering through partnerships. Institute a mentoring program to properly expand new talent's horizons.
