I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pay was good.
    My boss was great.
    Good insurance
Good training for entry level hires.
    Nice office in the city.
Good parties each quarter, after status meeting.

    Cons

No culture. More like hired guns running in different directions.
I didn't think the org was focused on employees experience/retention.
The Dallas office has most of the staff. Other office's projects get staffed with people Dallas is unwilling to fire.

    Advice to Management

Survey your employees and ask them what they need. Manage bad performers out. It will improve the culture.

    Pros

People are great, good work life balance

    Cons

Not a lot of variety in project work. Hitachi Consulting is trying to move to Solution Innovation projects but doesn't have the work to staff their employees yet and they are behind the curve on all other areas of tech consulting. There were major lay offs throughout 2016.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire people you cannot staff. Start selling more projects that you claim are the future of Hitachi Consulting.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good work-life balance
    - Great culture. Most people (managers/directors and below) really care about each other and delivering good work to clients
    - Some opportunities for CORE Consultants to experience different industries

    Cons

    - Very poor salary base and bonus structure
    - Administrative heavy that takes away from client work
    - Lack of transparency between leadership and employees
    - Recent enterprise transformation is proving to be challenging for the company
    - Lack of training opportunities for employees
    - Very price competitive in the industry
    - Biased annual reviews
    - A lot of variance on culture and employeeS' caliber across GEOs
    - No brand recognition in the US

    Advice to Management

    - Redefine who you hire as you transform the business. There's a major gap between the skills of your employees and the work you do while you transform Hitachi Consulting.
    - Improve your pipeline forecasting. Leadership does not have a handle on managing hiring against forecasting pipeline.
    - Be honest to your employees. There's no trust
    - Improve/reduce internal administrative processes. Delivery should focus on delivering consulting work and not on administrative (e.g. annual reviews, time and expenses, etc.)
    - Establish clarity on performance review process and what's expected from employees across all levels

    Pros

The office culture can be fun when people are in the office, benefits are good, organization does not feel too hierarchical, leadership does try to get a decent amount of feedback

    Cons

The review and promotion process is rigid, and there is not much choice or variety in projects for junior level people

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good company culture and great coworkers. Good company to start a consulting career.

    Cons

Despite all the training modules and material available, the engagements are quite messy and don't follow the taught processes. Salaries not up to par with competitors so when the better companies call, people leave. The evaluation and appraisal process is awful, career progress comes quite often not as a result of an evaluation but as how strong the relationship with the OIC is or the potential of leaving the company.

    Advice to Management

VPs and OICs to be closer to the front lines and provide meaningful tactical coaching to managers and consultants. CEO has a great vision but is has not materialized yet to the front line consultants.

Great place to start a career if you straight out of college. Great internal training and support for young consultants

    Cons

Not the best place for experienced consultants.

    Advice to Management

    Don't outsource projects overseas.

    Pros

Good opportunities if you can find them
    Great people
    Good culture
Allows for independence at a low level
Emphasis on community in local geographies

    Cons

    Poor leadership
    Boys club management
    Too much emphasis on "fit"
Not enough emphasis on intelligence or marketable skills
A lot of second string players the higher up you go

    Advice to Management

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good base of very able consultants- mostly graduate level, lots of energy and positivity. Lack of blame culture and an encouraging environment in which to work.

    Cons

Tends to be a 'blowfish' company- lands a big deal, then takes on a lot of contractors to satisfy it. Also fairly high turnover- many grads stay for a couple of years then move on

    Advice to Management

Work on retention of promising graduates to allow them to move up the career ladder within Hitachi, as opposed to going out and looking for other options.

    Pros

    Interesting projects

    Growing company

    Solid compensation & benefits

Leadership is responsive to suggestions from employees

    Cons

Professional services environment with all of the attending challenges (travel, utilization expectations, etc.)

The company has grown rapidly which naturally means that over time the culture has changed.

    Advice to Management

Continue providing a career path for employees
