I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have been with Hitachi Consulting for over 15 years. Couldn't stand the leadership, but didn't have to deal directly with the top.

However, we now have new leadership and I hope it will make a difference (I gave the leadership 3 stars for now since we just changed).

    Cons

Work/Life balance is always difficult. It is primarily your responsibility to set boundaries. If you always say "YES" to tasks or answer email in the evening/weekend, you are contributing to a poor work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Quit trying to buy companies and focus on a different way to grow us.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great culture, small enough to know a lot of people at the company and have a strong network while maintaining that family feel
    - Flexibility to move to different locations
    - Great industry exposure
    - Excellent work-life balance
    - Mentorship program at all levels, but entry level consultants get the most support/guidance

    Cons

    - Salary is not as high as other consultancies, but we also aren't working 60+ hours every week
    - Diversity of projects is not as big as other consultancies due to our size, although still good projects

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hitachi works hard at presenting a very professional face.

    Cons

When on a job, the team i worked with did far too much drinking and was quite clickish. Sustaining billing through agreeing with questionable decisions will always come back to bite you.

    Advice to Management

To be professional, act professional at all times!

    Pros

Better Work Life Balance, good projects

    Cons

Growth is difficult, you need to have the blessing of a powerful VP

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Salary is decent
18 days of vacation plus the days between Christmas and New Year's as holiday
You never get bored - constantly bouncing from project to project

    Cons

As a consultant, you are graded almost exclusively on the hours that you bill
You have no control on being billable and getting on a project
Some years I'm a walk on water god - other years I'm a total slacker - and I have no control on either

    Advice to Management

Remove utilization from the core employees' annual goals and move it to the sales team, where it belongs. *THEY* should be responsible for getting the available work force staffed and billable.

    Pros

    Good culture
Good growth if you are in the right group
    Great people to work with.
Good geography team building ( I was in Dallas geo)
Good on-line training tools available to all employees

    Cons

Like almost all consulting companies, billable hours is the focus. (Can't blame the company. the company has to be profitable)
Most of the people travel extensively. ( This could be a Pro to some people)

    Advice to Management

The old model to build clients close to where employees' geography really helps employees not have to travel extensively and get to know the clients personally.

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At Hitachi, I worked with some of the best people in my experience. Every member of my project team was ready to help with tasks, teach or train on applications, or work together to solve problems. There are numerous employee resource groups to help connect with people with similar interests or goals, such as charity fundraising, social planning, or minority groups. Additionally, Hitachi has great benefits and vacation policy.

    Cons

Unfortunately, for me, the cons outweighed the pros at Hitachi. As a college hire, I was not given any choice on the type of work I was involved in. I was pulled into an area outside my interest and expertise, and it became apparent that I would not be able to exit this practice without leaving the company. I also landed in a project whose management fostered a very negative culture of work-life balance. Team members were often called unexpectedly to work long or late hours on both weekdays and weekends.
