I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great job for single professionals who want to travel for work and solve a variety of problems for a variety of clients. Work-life balance is great because you can work from home, or anywhere, meaning the clients site, or at the airport when on work travel. Consulting is a life-style, so that means you can be working whenever, but still have a life outside of work too.

    Cons

Work can be slow during different times of the year, meaning you really have to reach out to PM's to give you more work

-Company does not offer tuition reimbursement if you are in a graduate/MBA program

    Advice to Management

-Offer tuition reimbursement and support employees who want to further their education.

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time

    Pros

I am glad I got to go through the ups and down of working at Hitachi. At the end of it, I came out with a much elevated work profile at my next gig, and I credit the projects/people that I got exposed to while at Hitachi Consulting. It wasn’t great all the time time, but show me a company that’s consistently ‘great’ and I’ll show you a pony with a rainbow tail.
Anyway, it got very challenging at times to meet the demands of the project, be it workload or just a brand new set of technology/people challenges. I had to work 14-15 hr days and be on constant travel for a long time. While I didn’t mind the work so much (depending on the PM/project team, you have your Friday’s pretty wide open), I got tired of the travel.
Overall, my feelings were mixed while I was working there, I now feel more favorable towards it.

    Cons

Pay structure needs to be customized, as I noticed that promotions were widely based on tenure, not talent. The CAs (Career Advisors) have no skin in the game regards to the progress of the Advisee, so, if you happen to get a low energy CA, you’re going to be behind than your peers. Not all CAs are the same, there needs to be a mechanism to hold them accountable for their respective advisee growth in all areas.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great People
    Good Culture
Good work life balance, better than other firms
    Decent compensation
Decent growth and opportunity for advancement
Fun, albeit a bit forced, culture

    Cons

Tedious and Unclear Annual Review Process
Sink or Swim environment, not too harsh but you've got to be a driven individual to succeed
Having a good mentor is somewhat luck based

    Advice to Management

Divert some resources to internal mentoring; fully staffed employees have trouble kicking off and then maintaining initiatives while keeping work life balance. Or allocate some billable hours and get successful employees willing to cooperate to dedicate some time to it. A vague promise of it positively impacting annual performance reviews isn't enough to encourage sacrificing dozens of hours personal time to organize material, logistics, and cut through red tape.
