I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time

    Pros

A good work/life balance for the most part. Generally competitive salaries considering the previous statement. Leadership is also generally competent and engaged with the staff.

    Cons

There is an expectation of full time travel, which isn't totally contrary to other similar firms. There has been a change in some of the leadership so this will need to play itself out to determine whether the change in vision is going to pay dividends.

    Advice to Management

Maintain communication with the staff on how the change in leadership and vision is playing out. What is working and what is not, transparency.

Great place to start a career if you straight out of college. Great internal training and support for young consultants

    Cons

Not the best place for experienced consultants.

    Advice to Management

    Don't outsource projects overseas.

    Pros

Compensation for good performers makes you feel appreciated.
Given more responsibility sooner, which helps you grow faster.
Project Managers try and provide work life balance

    Cons

Career advisor program could be more robust. Would like to see leadership take a more active role in developing new talent.
Need better training. Elearning courses do not provide adequate training.

    Advice to Management

Overall a great place to work. I see myself staying here for the foreseeable future. Invest more in the training and mentoring of your employees.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have been with Hitachi Consulting for over 15 years. Couldn't stand the leadership, but didn't have to deal directly with the top.

However, we now have new leadership and I hope it will make a difference (I gave the leadership 3 stars for now since we just changed).

    Cons

Work/Life balance is always difficult. It is primarily your responsibility to set boundaries. If you always say "YES" to tasks or answer email in the evening/weekend, you are contributing to a poor work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Quit trying to buy companies and focus on a different way to grow us.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly and intelligent co-workers who are willing to collaborate and share knowledge. A lot of diverse and high visibility projects with big clients like Microsoft. Many opportunities to get involved on internal projects. Great starting job for undergraduate campus hires trying to build their technical or leadership skills.

    Cons

Training quality is poor and only available through a third party online service or by knowledge sharing workshops from internal employees. No reimbursement for certification or education done outside of the company. Some senior level employees tend to play favorites which can create cliques among lower level employees. Annual/project reviews are time consuming and a hassle for everyone involved. HR based out of Dallas was difficult and unprofessional when negotiating my offer. Compensation is 15-20% less than comparable positions at other consulting firms.

    Advice to Management

Compensate employees better and don't rely on the work/life balance argument. The work at Hitachi is still demanding and does not justify a 15-20% lower compensation than other firms. Management doesn't seem to want to acknowledge that lower compensation has led to higher turnover this year. Get rid of annual reviews as they are not very helpful and seem to be a big time suck for everyone. Improve training and certification opportunities for employees. Consider bringing in professional trainers instead of relying on internal people to train and share knowledge. Set up more 1 on 1 time with lower level employees to get honest feedback.

    Pros

People take their job seriously but not themselves. That truly sets our culture apart from other consulting firms.

    Cons

Mixed sentiments about the 'Hitachi' brand. It carries a big weight nevertheless.

    Advice to Management

Continue to hire excellent college graduates and promote from within when possible.
