I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large variety of projects from IT to management consulting to public sector. You have a lot of sway in the types of projects you work on so this keeps things from getting boring.

Great benefits when travelling. Really a great opportunity for young college grads if you don't mind flying out of state every week. Consulting can be very fun work.

Most of HCC's clients are big names in their respective industries so if you decide to leave the firm at some point in the future you'll have loads of great experience on your resume.

The culture here is relaxed but still professional. Compared to other firms there is less of a cut-throat, high-stress vibe but it is still consulting. You can tell most employees really enjoy their job.

While the firm is part of the mammoth conglomerate that is Hitachi you feel like you're only in a medium sized company since the consulting division is separate from the rest of Hitachi. You get benefits of being in a huge company (including big name recognition on your resume) but without feeling like a number.

Work life balance here is surprisingly not bad.I fly home on Thursday and have enough energy on the weekend to have a social life!

    Cons

Not all the project work is glamorous. My projects have alternated between being boring at times to very stimulating and exciting... not a whole lot of middle ground I've noticed.

If you're not good at networking with your colleagues and superiors withing the firm you will have a hard time succeeding.

A disproportionate amount of the work is IT consulting so if you come in with a marketing degree or something non-technical you will have a harder time. Both of these factor into getting first choice on which project you get assigned to (i.e. who gets to go to London or Tokyo vs. who gets to go to Missouri or Iowa)

While the pay seems great to someone fresh out of school it is still lower than many of the big players in the consulting industry.

    Pros

Great culture. Leadership truly fosters junior resources to get involved in activities outside of client work. It's a great place to get started in consulting but not to stay long-term.

    Cons

Pay scale is horribly managed. New-hire resources with no experience are being hired at salaries well above consultants with multiple years of experience. When confronted about the issue, management did nothing to remedy the situation.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities for growth, especially for a younger individual, depending on your project.

Lots of independence as a consultant, depending on your project.

Great people with a good overall culture, smart and friendly folks.

Mostly flat hierarchically, with geographical office leaders that are generally accessible and approachable.

    Good benefits options.

    Cons

Work/life balance can be an issue, if you allow it (also depends greatly on a particular project, client, and project manager!). This is generally typical with consulting.

Salary is at a decent level, but not quite high enough to keep me from looking for different opportunities. Offices in downtown Los Angeles and Irvine but the salaries do not reflect that!

Mandatory events, which can be fun, but I'm still expected to bill full hours to the client/ project I'm working on. Depending on where you work these can be fairly time consuming.

Review process seems more like a local popularity contest.

    Advice to Management

Annual review process arbitrary, which is discouraging.

Ditch the mandatory events. Respect people's time, especially those who are consistently billing.

    Pros

Opportunity to work on a variety of projects in a variety of industries and technologies. Low power distance to management. Work with very talented people.

    Cons

Long term company strategy is unknown beyond growing to a billion dollar business. Why? What will that do for us? Company is very secretive about compensation - campus hires consistently being brought on at a higher starting salary than those campus hires from a year earlier. Campus hires being brought on at a higher salary than Senior Consultants I or II, which reflects market demand, but incredibly demoralizing. Moderate turnover at the Consultant and Senior Consultant level for this reason.

    Advice to Management

Although the company is transparent and the power distance is low in many regards, compensation and other benefit services are too secretive and taboo. Be the open, honest company we boast to be. Pay people just enough that they don't think about compensation and can stay focused on delivering excellence to the client and driving consistent revenue.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is plenty of opportunity to be staffed in varying roles. M-Th travel is standard with some flexibility.

    Cons

The annual review process focuses too little on the quality/quantity of work delivered and too much on the local popularity contest.

    Advice to Management

While the culture of the company you are trying to establish is commendable, dont punish people that work very hard traveling for "not coming into the office for face time enough"

    Pros

This company is everything you could want in a first job. I was debating between a few offers and took this because of the holistic exposure I would gain and the opportunity to learn. The culture here is unlike any and it's a dream job for a first job out of college. The leadership takes you under their wing and mentors you voluntarily. There are endless opportunities to shine. I will thrive here.

    Cons

    There are no cons.
