I have been working at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Historically good pay, good people

    Cons

Hemorrhaging executives and talent, monolithic storage company, excessive executive politics, weak portfolio (except for core storage). Promotions are hit or miss - often miss key leaders but promote "friends" or those who strengthen the diversity targets. Common for many to not receive a raise over 5+ years and promotion for 10.

    Advice to Management

The company needs strong focused leadership driving to a common strategy / portfolio. Also focus on decisions based on what's best for the company vs. executives / VPs.

I worked at Hitachi Data Systems (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Outstanding peer level people, interesting cafeteria, satisfactory health club facility, Free parking. Lot of freedom to work remotely.

    Cons

Where do I begin? Lousy communications from top management. Marketing operation is totally incompetent focused on latest gimmicks. Product promotion without substance or visibility. People promotions are friendship-based. Too many vice presidents obfuscating. A hugely political organization, which helps keep the company from marketplace relevance.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. Rebuild from the ground up. Set clear goals and enable them to be achieved. Reject marketing gimmicks. If you want to play in the big leagues, you have to have the tools and skills to do so. Blowing smoke won't work.

I worked at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance. Great if you are near retirement age (60+) and are looking for a slow pace where little to nothing is expected from you.

    Cons

Hitachi Data Systems has changed for the worse in the last year. Prominent resignations, layoffs, or firings include the CEO (Jack Domme, who was inspiring), head of product, head of sales, many other exec level sales and product leaders, etc. The list is long. Really long. Confusion is rampant. Political posturing is rampant. This means fewer technology advancements (already behind), budgets, and unfortunately, branding in the US - which was already nonexistent. IoT is branded as the future - but when will it make money? Thought leadership is great, but there is nothing to sell!! The tie between Hitachi parent and Hitachi Data Systems is smoke and mirrors. The company missed huge opportunities with cloud over last few years. What takes the place of high end storage revenue? Flash? Nope. Converged? Nope. Other?

They have great products that are no longer sought after, ineffective field branding, and invisible leadership.

    Advice to Management

The company could be great again. Reboot the entire executive team. Confidence must be restored.

    Pros

Work life balance, on site gym and cafeteria.

I have been working at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable employment, some very talented coworkers, occasional spot bonuses

    Cons

Ridiculous healthcare costs (major increases over the years), no formal merit increase policy, very limited staff to handle critical workload, constant reduction of IT budget

    Advice to Management

Start increasing funding and staffing for many of the IT groups that have been underfunded and understaffed for literally years. Support these groups properly, and these groups can then accomplish even more for the company.

    Pros

The individual people are wonderful - I built many lasting relationships and it was a joy to see my coworkers every day. My day was generally self-directed and I had a lot of autonomy in my work.

    Cons

Management (both locally and at the higher corporate level) refuse to take responsibility, and gaslight the hell out of employees, making them feel like they're the ones who are screwing up and can't meet ever-changing performance and culture standards. Contractors are treated like slave labor, and you can tell management doesn't really care about the products. The collective anxiety of everyone having one foot out the door is palpable.

    Advice to Management

Get your heads out of the sand: your employees are leaving at a rapid rate and it's because you don't pay competitively, treat your contractors like crap, and refuse to admit that maybe you're the problem, not your employees.

    Cons

HDS has struggled recently with corporate leadership, and has been slow to adapt to the changes in the industry. HDS Commercial I think is a viable employment opportunity, beware HDS Federal
