I have been working at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible work hours and benefits/Insurance are good.

    Cons

Training and lab are not good; No salary increase for years. Some resource managers don't care about your workload is very high.

In recent company re-structure, let many talent technical people go, kind of silly.

    Advice to Management

    No interest to me.

I worked at Hitachi Data Systems (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Outstanding peer level people, interesting cafeteria, satisfactory health club facility, Free parking. Lot of freedom to work remotely.

    Cons

Where do I begin? Lousy communications from top management. Marketing operation is totally incompetent focused on latest gimmicks. Product promotion without substance or visibility. People promotions are friendship-based. Too many vice presidents obfuscating. A hugely political organization, which helps keep the company from marketplace relevance.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. Rebuild from the ground up. Set clear goals and enable them to be achieved. Reject marketing gimmicks. If you want to play in the big leagues, you have to have the tools and skills to do so. Blowing smoke won't work.

I have been working at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Historically good pay, good people

    Cons

Hemorrhaging executives and talent, monolithic storage company, excessive executive politics, weak portfolio (except for core storage). Promotions are hit or miss - often miss key leaders but promote "friends" or those who strengthen the diversity targets. Common for many to not receive a raise over 5+ years and promotion for 10.

    Advice to Management

The company needs strong focused leadership driving to a common strategy / portfolio. Also focus on decisions based on what's best for the company vs. executives / VPs.

Lots of politics, especially in management. Stay in favor and they will treat you well. if not, they will become very vindictive and go after you like a rabid dog, even going as far as revoking your i140 -- beware H1b employees!

I worked at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hitachi Data Systems is a great company if you want to learn amazing storage technologies. You will learn about how storage arrays do dedup, compression, encryption, RAID, LUNS, and many 99.999% reliable data ingestion technologies. This is a great place to learn about the technology from a hardware perspective.

The culture is very collaborative and have nice people. The culture is not combative nor authoritative. People are generally kind to each other and take the time to help you be successful.

The work/Life/Balance is fantastic. A very generous remote working policy. HDS pays for mobile, internet, office supplies, and accessories. The company has literally become family and some of the working relationships that I have made in my 5+ years at HDS will last for a long time with me.

The only company where I would have great interactions with the CxO level down to the individual contributor level. Everyone at HDS is approachable and easy to collaborate with.

    Cons

Very slow to innovate. The company has missed the Flash, Hyper-Converged, Converged, and IoT markets. The company is having troubles to innovate outside of its core storage products.

Senior management is having troubles staying focus and too much politics to shift the company towards one direction. HDS is too dependent on storage sales.

Politics is at its worst in the last 2 years. Most of the CxO has been turned over and the wrong people are getting promoted. The company is not a meritocracy. It is a "who's-who's" type of environment that those are the people who gets promoted.

Product Management, Marketing, Business Development, and Strategies teams are all terrible. HDS has had some major misses in the market which has hurt HDS greatly.

Pay is unfortunately lower than other silicon valley companies. No RSU offered and the base pay is paltry. Bonus and ELTI are generous if you can earn what GIP % or ELTI you can politic for.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate the Steve Jobs' playbook. Kill all adjacent or non-performing products and double down on what you know best. Whether it is storage or IoT. Make the change now, it will be a painful change as change is always tough but now is the time to make a pivot to where HDS needs to go.
