I have been working at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexible work options
    Some nice people

HDS was at one time years ago a great place to work. They have many issues like poor marketing, weak sales leadership and horrible middle management teams. Your direct manager will micromanage you to a bloody pulp for no good reason.

They keep firing American engineers and moving everything to India and H1b India slave
labor even HR and recruiters are INDIAN! Product is weak and no marketing or sales so how are they making money? This leads to massive annual layoffs because company can only make money by firing employees to make their bottom line look good.

    Cons

    Salary
    No raises
    Bad management
    Sinking ship
    Turnover constant
    Yearly layoffs

    Advice to Management

Dump the management and reboot whole management
Provide better incentives to retain talent
    Stop sending jobs to India

I have been working at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Employees are loyal, respectful and generally collaborative
    - Strong, loyal customer base (but a declining market overall)
    - If you are a top performer, you don't get any extra performance bonus but you can ask for and expect an increase in responsibilty
    - Some potential bright spots with IoT, Content and Analytics offerings
    - Recently let go of some leaders who were not very effective
    - Starting to hire competent and experienced outsiders

    Cons

    - There is constant lip-service around change/transformation with very little details
    - Many employees just don't have the skills, experience or initiative to change
    - Employees are not rewarded based on individual performance, but rather on company performance overall
    - For how much we preach data and digital transformation, our systems are outdated and it's challenging to get the data needed to validate business decisions and changes
    - The best employees are on the verge of leaving because management is rehashing the same talking points at every town hall with precious few details, plans or resources committed to making changes
    - Compensation systems are outdated and no clear performance management; no stock options or RSUs
    - A lot of individual contributor roles rather than well structured and high-performing teams that keep each other accountable

    Advice to Management

    - Start listening to outside opinions and stop letting inferior Japanese management practices and excessive reporting distract you from the task at hand
    - Understand that it will take significant near-term investment to execute real transformation of our organization and catch up to the market

    Pros

Great work/life balance. Management is approachable and genuinely kind. Compensation is at or above market. Company is focused on employee career development and goals.

    Cons

Health insurance premiums are out of this world. The cheapest package for me, my husband and daughter was over 800$ a month!! Would give 5 stars if not for insurance price(s).

    Pros

The individual people are wonderful - I built many lasting relationships and it was a joy to see my coworkers every day. My day was generally self-directed and I had a lot of autonomy in my work.

    Cons

Management (both locally and at the higher corporate level) refuse to take responsibility, and gaslight the hell out of employees, making them feel like they're the ones who are screwing up and can't meet ever-changing performance and culture standards. Contractors are treated like slave labor, and you can tell management doesn't really care about the products. The collective anxiety of everyone having one foot out the door is palpable.

    Advice to Management

Get your heads out of the sand: your employees are leaving at a rapid rate and it's because you don't pay competitively, treat your contractors like crap, and refuse to admit that maybe you're the problem, not your employees.

Culture is nice, and people are really friendly. Lots of possibilities considering the IP that Hitachi owns.

    Cons

Struggling with execution of vision and strategy

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing a plan, backed up by great business, market and customer research, then EXECUTE the vision!

    Pros

The culture is very inclusive. People from all countries, cultures and age brackets work well together. The mission is real to connect the solutions we sell with improving not only business customers, but communities as well. There's a lot of pride in selling what works and is useful. Work/life balance is excellent.

    Cons

There can be poor communication from the people at the top to the people at the bottom. It isn't yet clear how recent changes among corporate leaders will change or improve the culture and our prospects for growth.

    Advice to Management

Keep the culture and the widening view of what we offer. Choose major initiatives that we can hold onto longer and understand better. Make the middle tiers of the company more accountable for their impact on growth.
