    Pros

The individual people are wonderful - I built many lasting relationships and it was a joy to see my coworkers every day. My day was generally self-directed and I had a lot of autonomy in my work.

    Cons

Management (both locally and at the higher corporate level) refuse to take responsibility, and gaslight the hell out of employees, making them feel like they're the ones who are screwing up and can't meet ever-changing performance and culture standards. Contractors are treated like slave labor, and you can tell management doesn't really care about the products. The collective anxiety of everyone having one foot out the door is palpable.

    Advice to Management

Get your heads out of the sand: your employees are leaving at a rapid rate and it's because you don't pay competitively, treat your contractors like crap, and refuse to admit that maybe you're the problem, not your employees.

    Pros

Culture is nice, and people are really friendly. Lots of possibilities considering the IP that Hitachi owns.

    Cons

Struggling with execution of vision and strategy

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing a plan, backed up by great business, market and customer research, then EXECUTE the vision!

I have been working at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The culture is very inclusive. People from all countries, cultures and age brackets work well together. The mission is real to connect the solutions we sell with improving not only business customers, but communities as well. There's a lot of pride in selling what works and is useful. Work/life balance is excellent.

    Cons

There can be poor communication from the people at the top to the people at the bottom. It isn't yet clear how recent changes among corporate leaders will change or improve the culture and our prospects for growth.

    Advice to Management

Keep the culture and the widening view of what we offer. Choose major initiatives that we can hold onto longer and understand better. Make the middle tiers of the company more accountable for their impact on growth.

I worked at Hitachi Data Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work and life balance oriented.
I didn't get any after hours calls, not single weekend work.
All were planned at very reasonable pace and all also were delivered on time - so team and self satisfaction factor was very high.

    Cons

some strange to Silicon Valley security restrictions that come from Japan HQ.
You want to move fast and access and integrate as much as possible, but all work can be done in secure / DMZ lab - just productivity loss.

    Advice to Management

Separate corp sensitive info from development.

    Pros

HDS is not perfect, but they sincerely care about the business, it's employees and the culture. This cannot be said about most companies.

    Cons

Many employees feel entitled, they need to make sure they are not waiting for someone else to fix things, or hoping that things will improve...Figure out what's going on and make a plan to improve things!

    Advice to Management

Lead by influence and keep moving forward.

    Pros

Benefits are ok, trying to attract talent but having a hard time with salaries that are not in tune with the Bay Area . Some very nice people that try to help each other but seems like most people are looking elsewhere..... is there light ahead?

    Cons

Poor leadership, inexperienced management, nonexistent Human Resources, very political environment, lack of ethics even though they brag about it ..... no diversity

    Advice to Management

Either manage this company or sell it off to someone that will

    Pros

Smart co-workers are easy to get along with and help where they can.

    Cons

Restructuring is causing many layoffs. Work groups are getting too small to handle all of the work that is being inherited by the ones that haven't been affected by layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs to reconnect with the workers.
