I worked at Hitachi Transport System (america) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

HTS is a global company with a good reputation. They are a stable employer that will not lay off workers unless absolutely necessary. They are good to employees, core and temps alike in their treatment. They work to accommodate their workers as much as possible while keeping their business goals. They provide good benefits to core employees.

    Cons

Their wages tend to be low. Also, they take way too long to promote temps to core. We lost a lot of good employees because they got tired of waiting for core position so they can get the insurance and benefit package they do not enjoy with the temp service.

    Advice to Management

The problem was not so much with the local management. Local managers would have loved to move their best temp workers to core before they lost them. Corporate HQ should allow more flexibility to local managers to promote the best temps to core.

    Cons

    Low culture values

    Advice to Management

They could do better. Maybe hire more competent managers.

I have been working at Hitachi Transport System (america) (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are not any pros this job can offer.

    Cons

The pay is terrible, even though Vantec claims to be competitive with pay. The benefits are terrible. This company has had catered events, and because of budgeting they asked employees the next day for money to pay for the food. A manager told employees during a morning meeting to not forget that they are a number and can be replaced at anytime. Core workers are treated terribly. They do not give raises, and only give one bonus check a year. They do not value workers that have been employed for years. I'd personally look for another job before wasting your time here.

    Advice to Management

Value employees that have worked for your company for many years. Also quit being cheap and pay your employees.

    Pros

Great benefits. Vacation accrued is great if you're allowed to use it.

    Cons

    Low pay. Incompetent management team.

    Advice to Management

    Fire yourself.

"Better salary and benefits, yet glass ceiling on when it comes to promotion"

    • Senior Management
    Former Employee - Sales
    Former Employee - Sales

    Pros

    Better salary than competitors
Really good benefits (health insurance and 401K especially) compared with competitors in the same industry.

    Cons

Glass ceiling when it comes to promotion. i.e. management positions are mostly occupied by people from the owner company in Japan. they come and go every 3 to 5 year as senior management (director, CEO, CFO, etc.) even though some of them don't even speak English.
you will never be able to be promoted beyond general manager unless you bring tons of profit to the company.

    Advice to Management

Decrease the number of people from Japan who occupy important positions when there are fully competent local workers in US. they should be promoted more and given more opportunities to thrive. when they feel they cannot get any higher than a certain position, they will simply leave the company with his/her clients.
