    Pros

Good benefits Flexible schedule Good Managers up to directors

    Cons

CEO is all talk. Hasn’t delivered squat. CIO is totally lost in the cloud Next level management struggles to keep up with changing vision every sprint. They call this agility. Heard they are merging with the consulting that is already losing revenue.

    Advice to Management

Someone please rescue the innocent vantarans. Don’t punish them for C level fubar

I have been working at Hitachi Vantara full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Just moved into a nice new building, so the facilities are modern. The people here are genuinely nice and supportive. They try to make you feel part of the team right away. And, I also found the benefits to be at the top compared to other companies in the valley; cell phone expense, gym membership, and FlexPerks just to name a few. Compensation is pretty competitive in Silicon Valley I would say.

    Cons

As a large conglomerate, Hitachi doesn't always move with agility, and some of its productization processes and life cycle management tools are a bit old school. But great people help to compensate for these weaknesses. Hitachi Vantara is definitely on the upswing and a place I would gladly recommend to a friend!

    Advice to Management

Please continue to maintain the great company culture!

    Advice to Management

Transformation is necessary for all businesses to adjust to changing markets, competition, and technology, Hitachi Data Systems was certainly no exception. In fact, we have been screaming for change in the field for years but all seemed to fall on deaf ears or told “we” were the problem. Enter Hitachi Vantara and along with it, new leadership. I understand that such a huge transformation comes with much discomfort,... uncertainty and challenges. This is NOT about change OR transformation but rather the means to which they chose to execute upon them. While I agree there may have been changes that needed to be made, the message that “legacy employees are part of the problem, not the solution” coming from incoming SVPs who have no understanding of our history, company or its employees, is no way to win friends or influence people. Telling employees, “you don’t know what good looks like” does not go very far in showing that you value them…forget about the Hitachi Spirit...while practiced by many of those in the field, they seem to have been completely abandoned within the ranks of leadership. Hitachi Vantara has evolved into a toxic, hostile work environment for many legacy employees. By all appearances Executive/Senior Management is only concerned about managing up, not what is truly right for the business or its employees. Where is the accountability at the Executive/Senior Leadership level? The phrase “the emperor wears no clothes” has become a common catch phrase here. Just because you say something, it doesn’t make it so. It saddens me to see what has become of a once highly revered company and culture. We could have made this change together long ago with much less fall out if only the leadership listened to our voice. It's really quite a shame and fear things have pivoted too far for them to fully recover. Hitachi Vantara needs to wake up to the realities of what is happening and how they are perceived but not sure they ever will until they awake to the realization that the emperor is, in fact, wearing no clothes.

    Pros

Company is investing in its transformation but at the same time doesn't seem to acknowledge it is fundamentally a storage company and that is the source of . The "Digital" business products are a huge strategic focus. Great long-term vision of Social Innovation and having a double bottom line.

    Cons

It is hard to see how the company will bridge the gap between the current state and the long-term vision without more significant product enhancements and portfolio changes. Many senior management and executive level changes over last two years. Company culture is changing as new team members join from different companies (perhaps also a pro). The high turnover and management level changes have made the working... environment feel unstable but at the same time bringing in new talent is necessary for the transformation. Enacting change sometimes feels like turning around the Titanic.

    Advice to Management

Make more investments in the portion of the business that continues to "keep the lights on" (storage). Acknowledge the achievements of longer tenured employees and change the rhetoric that somehow these individuals are responsible for the issues the company faces.

I have been working at Hitachi Vantara full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Unlimited PTO - $500 health/gym reimbursement -$500 flexperk reimbursement (free cash without needing a reason) - People are generally nice to new people like me - Training options if you are willing to be proactive about it - Remote work is possible but it really depends on your manager

    Cons

    - Negotiate your salary as high as you can get it because it will be a while before you get a raise. I've heard from co-workers who have been here for 3+ years who have never gotten a raise or cost of living adjustment. - The only health insurance option you have is a high deductible plan. Hitachi does put money into the HSA twice a year to help offset the deductible, but it still doesn't beat a comprehensive... health plan that offers decent coverage. - Managers cannot manage and are offered no support. My manager is very, very green and has had multiple complaints lodged against him, but HR and upper management do nothing. I have not lodged a complaint (yet) but I will if nothing is done about his lack of management and people skills. - The onboarding process is a joke. You watch videos about Hitachi but your actual department has zero onboarding. You spend hours watching these brainwashing videos and still have to ask basic questions like how to access network files and whom to contact about a project task. It makes no sense and is so inefficient.

I worked at Hitachi Vantara full-time

    Pros

Work Life Balance (mostly because the company is made up of mediocre performers and does not care to drive results and motivate employees. Therefore it's easy for Employees leave in the middle of the day, fake work from home, etc.

    Cons

The people at this company are so outdated and they are ageist unless you are a 40+ white man. I was a high performing millennial, constantly getting pats on the back and "you're doing such a great job", but it never translated to a promotion or increase. When I asked for an increase that was inline with the level of work I was doing, HR told me I couldn't get a raise because it wasn't in the same band as others in... my age group. First of all, it's unethical to discriminate me by how old I look. Second, doesn't matter how old I am. If I am doing a certain level of work, its a fair expectation to be compensated as such. I knew people "older" than me, doing the exact same work, getting paid $30-50K more.

    Advice to Management

Fix your practices. You've had people on that team who have been at Hitachi for ages and are stuck in their old-school mentality.
