I worked at Hoag Memorial Hospital full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great cafeteria food. Beautiful view. Clean facility.

    Cons

I worked there for 6 years. Started out great then the CEO pretty much drove the place into the ground. They pour millions into making the hospital "pretty" then quietly lay off hundreds of staff, force retirement, or cut their salary. The skeleton crew left is told to work "smarter not harder." Morale is AWFUL there. There are certain managers who bully like crazy, but because they will drive relentlessly towards the...

    Advice to Management

Quit throwing away money on "appearances" and appreciate the employees that you have-they can make or break you.

I worked at Hoag Memorial Hospital part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good work-life balance, nice location, good cafeteria food.

    Cons

Cattiness, cliqueyness, unfriendliness, lack of conflict resolution, lack of communication, improper training, demanding perfection, employees not given enough time to prove themselves.

    Advice to Management

The majority of the nurses who work here are catty women who don't want to train but who demand perfection from their inferiors. If something is not done correctly, they won't express the problem directly to help the employee learn. Instead they will complain to management and try to have the employee terminated. There is no way the employee can improve upon their skills if the nurses don't explain things to them, so...

I worked at Hoag Memorial Hospital

    Pros

Great location near the Pacific Ocean and in Newport Beach. The best cafeteria food.

    Cons

Senior leadership does not trust the education, experience and skills of most employees. Little encouragement and help in cross-training efforts. Continuation of 'silos' within the various internal departments.

    Advice to Management

Hire senior leaders and managers of people who can foster integrity, trust and respect for every employee. This will ensure that the organization will be composed of high caliber professionals who put the organization's well-being and goals first.

"Great medical facility, great peers, some highest level management people are real losers."

I worked at Hoag Memorial Hospital

    Pros

Would highly reccomend this medical facility to anyone needing healthcare. Many, many really great employees to work with there. Staff always goes out of their way to make patients and visitors welcome. Cafeteria food quality and variety is outstanding - although a bit pricey.

    Cons

Some high level management are incapable of "walking the talk" when it comes to the way they treat their employees. There is often a sense of mistrust in dealing with them.

    Advice to Management

Some do a really outstanding job when it comes to sincerely caring about their employees and showing that caring by deed. Others could care less about you than they would a stranger walking in off the street.
