    Pros

massive development, there is always something new to learn in this seemingly "boring" industry. in general we have good local directors. The money is up to market standard.

    Cons

Some discrimination and nepotism case. Shortly after the global merger with Lafarge in Jul 2015, the we have a new CEO and new Directors from Lafarge, man of them are incompetent. They can only talk, but no action.

    Advice to Management

    Start working and stop politicking.

I worked at Holcim full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

GREAT PEOPLE! I have made great friendships with many people in Holcim and there were a lot of extremely bright people from whom I could learn a lot.
GREAT OPPORTUNITIES IF YOU FIGHT FOR THEM! I worked for a Holcim group company after my experience in Holcim Group Support and at a very young age was given a lot of responsibility. However, I had to find my own way into this position and did not get absolutely and help to get there.
LEARNED A LOT! I had the opportunity to travel and work on extremely interesting and challenging projects. This point alone is enough for me not to have regretted working there.

    Cons

VERY POLITICAL! Generally promotions seemed to be based on who knows who and not on performance and qualification.
NO PROPER CAREER DEVELOPMENT PATH! Nobody cares about your development and your career path. In the two years I was there, I never even perceived the existence of an HR function. You have to fight for yourself. To be fair I have to say that I was already told at the interview that the position was going to be a great experience but that only few lucky ones succeed in shaping their own career path within Holcim while everyone else found good positions elsewhere.
SILO MENTALITY! When I was there, I saw a lot people being paid a lot to do absolutely nothing and spending most of their time building a small empire for themselves and protecting it against any threat to its existence. This led to major silo thinking where some departments did not even talk to each other.

    Advice to Management

Appoint proper HR professionals. Put HR on top of your list. Evaluate performance properly and use the results to decide who to promote! Stop hesitating to lay off managers who are not performing.
